Musso Small Game Wine

Greywacke

Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014

Quite dark redblue color for a PN; the nose is full of raspberries and dark cherry but also has some savoury forest leather/game type of aromas; taste contains all from the nose plus high spicy acids, some oak flavours and weak small tannins. Very well made NZ pinot, paired with Montana intenso cheese, Chianti salami, and Shostakovich's 8th quartet. — 8 years ago

Aux Cheseaux Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2003

Beautiful nose of ripe cherry and a touch of earth. Beautiful oxblood color. Fantastic pallet of ripe cherry, dried cranberries, a touch of earth and pure elegance. I would love another in a few years. Paired great with small game birds. — 9 years ago

Ampodium Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2010

Purple core with small rim variation. Fresh black and blue fruit with olive tapenade, sage, and game. Clean winemaking. Bright acidity to keep it all in check. Could use a couple more years, although just fine now if you like tension in your wine. — 10 years ago

Corner Pocket Vineyard Syrah 2007

One of the top Syrah's that I have yet to drink. I absolutely love the estate and how it is from a small lot from their own vineyard. Big red to go with my buddy's own hunted game - Deer! — 9 years ago

Christian Bellang & Fils

Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes Pinot Noir 2012

This wine is very well-made, it’s soft spoken, medium-body, but full of lush fruit, great finish, surprisingly long for a Chorey. Immediately pretty and feminine, with a nose dominated by small red fruits (raspberry, Morello cherry) and black fruits (blackberry) set off by note of liquorice and underbrush. With air it evolves towards strawberry preserves and gingerbread with light game and leather notes. It is well-built with noticeably elegant tannins. — 9 years ago

La Conreria d'Scala Dei

Priorat Garnacha 2009

The cork smelled like a freshly baked blueberry pie!
This wine had a very enticingly rich nose of chocolate and vanilla bean, cedar, jam fruits, game, and cinnamon. The pallet was as rich as the nose indicated, exhibiting notes of black and blue fruits, mushroom, pepper, and a delicious finish. The tannins were supple, yet clingy, but still smooth, with some slight backbone delivered by the small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon blended in. For only $30 from PRIORAT, you can't do much better. Drink or Hold - 2030

Clos Saint Michel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2011

Super olivey and savory without much fruit. Garrigue, game, olives of all sorts. A small amount of pruny, dark fruit flavors to balance things out. Not really a proper Chateauneuf-du-Pape but pleasant enough. — 10 years ago
