Muddy Boot Wine

Luigi Calissano

Riserva Speciale Barolo Nebbiolo 1967

This looked dead - muddy and rusty...but totally different on the palate. Bright red currants, so amazing, and softened nicely the longer it was open... — 10 years ago

Cognac mixed with fresh just-pressed tape juice, which is what it tastes like--dirty grapey and aged cognac. Fascinating local tradition, and good to boot. — 12 years ago

Paul-Marie does some vintage PdC as well - old barrels and absolutely delicious.

A nice balance of acid and fruit. Earthiness to slide those muddy gulf oysters, but enough lift to roll with lightly seared scallops. — 10 years ago

Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2011

Interesting blend of Napa Sauv Blanc, Ribolla gialla, Semillon and Tocai Fruilano. Great mineral/flint, nice acidity, peach and lemon/lime. Wasn't sure about this when I had a small taste in Feb, but loving it now from bottle over several nights. Excellent. 12.9% to boot. — 11 years ago

Latkmead makes a good Tocai Fruilano blend. I think it was the first grape they planted on that property in the 1880s.

Would you compare it to the Compagni Portis blends?

Just saw this post…the white wine has a little bottle age and is showing really well. The Tocai fruilano is from a grafting from the original Larkmead planting.
