Nose has smoked & partially-dried plum, sliced cherries dredged in cocoa powder, faint baking spice, mashed black cherries, old cigar box and dried blackberries.
Palate has grilled plum, savory herbs, over-ripe blackberry, bittersweet chocolate chips, faint fire-roasted tomato and raspberry puree.
Decanted +3H, needs lots more time to uncoil. Medium to heavy tannins with a drying palate texture similar to eating a spoonful of cocoa powder, dry + chocolatey. A wall of tannins, if drinking this before 2026, decant at least 8-12H. — 5 years ago
Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.
Really enjoyed my visiting with Will at Mending Wall where he poured Rivers-Marie as well as his personal label William & Mary.
Such a treat to try this side by side with the Summa. Very different. Quite a bit more sweet and ripe fruit here framed by good acidity and herbal crunch. Some blood orange and tangy red fruits mixed with blackberries and a great finish. Will get better, but hard to wait! — 5 years ago
V15. Very good. Cherry and rose nose. Thick blackberry fruit. Dry, anise finish. Nicely balanced. — 6 years ago
Over a 3.5 hour period on May 29, my wife and I (along with three kids in tow) had the pleasure of sitting down with Will Segui of Rivers-Marie and winemaker of his personal label William & Mary at the Mending Wall facilities in St. Helena to taste through seven wines from bottle. Will also graciously provided tastings of his 2016 and 2017 William & Mary varietals from barrel.
Beautiful golden color in the glass; nose of honey, golden apples, and white flowers; bright and vibrant palate with lemon, apple, honey and subtle mint; oily texture, viscous; great acid kick on the back end; nowhere near the exotic, tropical fruit nature of the 2013, but still fruit-forward and characteristics of a quality Chardonnay — 7 years ago
Best vintage I’ve tasted. More balanced and a lot smoother than 13,14,15. A bright wine in a very tragic fire year — 4 years ago
Thought it would be a little too sweet for me, but I really liked it — 5 years ago

Not quite pop and pour, but close! Will poured this as we walked around the facility and it rapidly evolved, showing baking spices (lots of cinnamon), sweet mixed berry pie, with a touch of graphite...profile had very fine grained tannins, lush and balanced, finishing more to the red fruit dominated side of the spectrum. Nice. — 5 years ago
Love Kent Rosenblum’s zins. This one is fantastic especially in the middle of winter with a tri-tip and shrimp dinner. — 7 years ago
Deep color and flavors. Very long. Big but balanced wine. — 5 years ago

I’m scoring this the same as the Occidental it was next to, but for different reasons. This, for my tastes, is a hold for the next few years. Herbal and floral, with a refreshingly low ABV yet still powerful. Spice box, herbs de Provence, cedar, and kirsch like. Lots in reserve here. — 5 years ago
2016 RW. We both love. Smooth with good body and substance. — 6 years ago
V16. Worth decanting 30 minutes. Smokey, cedar nose. Nice strawberry, blueberry and blackberry fruit. Earthy , mocha finish. Well done. — 7 years ago
Baritone and lush, the 2014 Rock Wall Jack's Dry Creek Petite Sirah is a spicy melange of juicy black cherries, plums, cedar, and bay leaf. Inky and dark in the glass, this Sonoma County red is equally hedonistic on the palate, a riot of black fruit and ripe tannins pierced by a jaunty vein of acidity. 14.8% ABV | Sample — 8 years ago

Dense dark smooth Fruit and minerality. If you’re looking for funk, look elsewhere. — 4 years ago
