A fun way to meet Jean Charles and his new book Alchemy of the Senses. Bright and bubbly. — 6 years ago
Beautiful bottle bottom is a glass rose and the wine is smooth and delectable. It might be cute as a gift instead of roses to give these “roses” . Also no need for a corkscrew as “ cork” is a glass stopper. This is perfect wine for drinking anytime. It has just the right sweetness and light rose taste. Very affordable and fairly easy to find. — 7 years ago
Mark and I agreed to meet up at Classic this afternoon for some quick wine drinking, but it eventually turned in to a small wine gathering! Wine is great, but sharing it with others is so enjoyable.
Funny thing about this wine is we have no idea who opened it. Didn't necessarily fit the theme of what we were drinking, but turning down free wine isn't in my blood! Very simple. Not complex at all. Reminded me of Welch's grape juice, BUT, that was due to the Bordeaux's we were drinking and after some time, this became a decent, quaffable drinker. Lots of dark fruits and a ridiculous amount of Oak. — 8 years ago
Was introduced to Spoto Wines officially today, though @Mark Flesher has sung their praises to me for a while, and even gifted me this very same bottle. Spoto Wines is the epitome of family...all owned, operated and it very much feels that way. Really love that style. I was pleased to meet Stuart Spoto as he was pouring. Quick review of their wines:
-2015 Viognier- The best Viognier I've tasted. "Summer in a bottle" they say. Tropical notes but not super citrus like. A minty finish which I loved.
-2014 Oakville Cuvée- From the historic Oakville Station part of To-Kalon. Merlot dominant. The most "Bordeaux"-esque of the lineup to me. Balance of red fruits and earthy herbs. Spice finish.
-Godfather Part II- My favorite of the tasting based on approachability. This is pop and pour. Red and black fruit medley, cinnamon, cassis. 80/20 Merlot/Malbec
-2013 Oakville Private Reserve Cabernet- I'm stoked to have one of these out away in the cellar. Also from the Oakville Station To-Kalon Vineyard. This is age worthy but could be popped today if you give it a 1.5-2hr decant. Very black fruit dominant. Plum rush, blackcherry and mocha. — 8 years ago
Monthly WTF wine group meet up.
Potpourri, fresh squeezed blackberries, currant, and candied teriyaki. Plush on the palate, with more acidity than ‘14. Structure here seems more beefed up. I waited an hour or so to try, and it was very soft. Full fruit spectrum (red, blue and black). Muddled mulberry with a flavor punch finish. Thanks for opening @Weston Eidson . — 7 years ago
Dry, but bold. Great with seafood and a cute boy — 7 years ago
With Hillstone recently deciding to A). add a $15 corkage fee to their menu and B). take the Smith-Madrone Spring Mountain Cab Sauv. off their wine list (crime of the century in my opinion!), I wondered if there were any good wine finds left on their menu. I was pleased to find this one and enjoyed it thoroughly with my French Dip! Even better was the cute guy seen sitting across the bar from me! I would have gladly shared! Now, just need to curb my addiction to their creamy horseradish and all will be right in the world-well sorta.... — 8 years ago
Outstanding wine. Berries and stone. Noticable overtones of smoked meet serve as an interesting contrast to the berries. Notes of roasted root vegetables and chives mid-palate. — 8 years ago
Was lucky enough to share this bottle with only its owner over the course of a long dinner. It evolved beautifully in the decanter, taking about an hour to round out its tannins and another 90 minutes or so until a layer of red fruit emerged (along with blood, graphite and pepper). Hope we meet again! — 9 years ago
I heard in Melbourne they call “natural wine” “collingwood koolaid”. Jonestown 2018 sounds cute right about now. After one dexy I could be fooled very easily into drinking this sans sulfur koolaid. Strawberry milkshake made with buttermilk frozen custard with a little Yuzu zest. Living in New York you sometimes forget it’s always summer/sunny somewhere. This will remind you, and if you’re lucky it will make you forget again 💁 — 7 years ago
Small group for this month's WTF wine meet up, so why not hit up Fort Worth's best BYOB?
As soon as I gave this a whiff, I knew a fair bit of cab franc was incorporated. No green pepper, though. Leather, raspberries, kirsch, and a touch of cedar on the nose. At a point in its life where it's mimicking Bordeaux at best it can. The body and finish have very little tannic grip. Dirty cherries, and fig leaves. Thanks for bringing Bill! — 8 years ago
A solid wonderful cab. Lots of berry flavors. Excellent aroma. 2009 was excellent year. It will meet all expectations. — 8 years ago
Forgot to add this in on the 4th. The Release Party was a lot of fun and we were lucky enough to meet @Shay Aldriedge in person! Also a solid wine and loved the single vineyards we got to try.
Dark purplish ruby red. Tons of baking spices on the nose with black and dark red fruits. Heavy tannins (8/10) and similar notes on the palate. Full bodied and long finish. Drink till 2030. — 8 years ago
