Sweet but not cloying. Delightful on its own, or in a fancy negroni. Probably the best vermouth I’ve had (though I am not an aficionado!) — 3 years ago
This is why we love the Matthiasson’s, always experimenting, innovating, and refining!
1hr+ decant. Bright red color. Massive floral nose with apricot. Well balanced with medium depth. Apples, olives, oranges, and peaches on the palate. If having blind, I’m pretty sure I would have gone white or at a minimum a massive Rose. Best comparison would be a floral Beaujolais. I don’t get any Syrah. Paired very nicely with lamb, peppers, and saffron rice. Would be lovely on a summer night. 93 and heading higher because I can’t seem to put the glass down, especially because of the lovely, unique smell! Reminds me of a beer I once had but can’t recall its name. I find myself just continuing to write about this!! — 5 years ago
Nose: elegant white flowers.
Palate: balanced mineral. Green apple. Good density. Burgundian. — 4 months ago
Very light gold color. Peaches, pineapple, flint, and lemongrass on the nose. This is more Sauv Blanc and Riesling than previous vintages, Less acidity too. Still good, just different from previous vintages I’ve had. Great depth and long finish. Love the complexity and uniqueness! — 4 months ago
The nose is quite fascinating. There is a tiny green bell pepper note that is familiar, but I smell cherry coke, strawberry, a bit of hay, some black pepper too. The palate was austere and super dry at first but it opened up after a while. I had a first glass before our evening meal and I can see a real difference with meat balls and brocoli in soy sauce. There is a good acid drive, some cherry cola and strawberry notes, a very soft and caressing mouthfeel, some gentle tannins in the rear, before a long, rather dry finish with the same fruit notes and a discreet final bitter touch. A rather lean, not extracted, fruity yet structured example of cabernet franc. I would not have guessed it blind as it's quite different from loire valley expressions I know. Good stuff, have it with food though. — 9 months ago
Very dry and crisp without puckering. Exceptionally clean finish. Minerally, mild salinity. “Like you licked a rock out of the ocean,” says the waitress at the Catbird seat. — 3 years ago
Oxidative sherry nose, round, honey flavors. 20 mo on lees, open air aging. 100% ribolla gialla. (Drunk with Ryme from same year/vines.) — 5 years ago

Palate: very clean. Mountain stream. Mineral. — 4 months ago
On day 1, I wasn’t that impressed. On day 3, this is really singing. The red fruit aromas go on and on - one of those wines you could just keep smelling. A bit less acid than I was hoping for, but I agree with Matthiasson’s winemaker note: “the Nebbiolo is unmistakable on the finish, with the silky but firm tannins and noble bitterness” — a year ago
First time trying this “villages” Chardonnay from Matthiasson. For the price quite nice. I think it satisfies the concept of a more accessible less expensive introduction to their Chardonnay - ie, a villages wine - quite well. Very good pairing with a goat cheese and broccolini tart. — 5 years ago
