Hotel Majestic. La Gran Noche de la Rioja.

The 'Que Bonito Cacareaba’ by Bodega Contador is a stunning effort in this vintage. The wine is a compelling blend of 50% Garnacha Blanca, 35% Malvasía, 15% Viura all sourced from head-trained vines gown in a mix of alluvial and calcareous soil from the districts of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Briones with Rioja Alta. Showing off a golden hue, this exudes a wide range of aromatics, from unripe nectarine to lychee to tangerine zest. The texture is polished and downright unctuous, yeilding flavors of bright pear, pink grapefruit zest, starfruit and lychee that all beautifully connect. This is bright yet highly rich and satisfying. A sensational effort by Benjamin Romeo. Drink 2019-2035- 94 — 6 years ago
Light body and very "Pinot Noir" like. Bright red cherry and strawberry flavors. Mild tannins and light oak. Hint of smoke. Refreshing. Chill it a bit below cellar temp. Great story about the winery. A Mt. Etna lava flow just went around them 30 years ago. — 9 years ago
Massimo is a genius! Can't wait to see his wines evolve and develop over time. Pure fruit and has wonderful, natural acid. THIS is what Napa cab is all about. — 9 years ago
Balanced and elegant, this wine delivers black cherry, candied fruit and ripe tannins. It's really going to hit its peak in another 5 years. — 10 years ago

Alto Piemonte Nebbiolo. Gorgeous, pale-brick color. Velvety, leather, ripe black fruit, dried roses, tobacco and tar, but with high-altitude and northern Piedmont freshness, minerals, and perfumed elegance. From Flatiron Wines. — 6 years ago
A really fascinating rose blend from Mount Aetna. Has the high acidity and even some minerality that wines on those slopes yield. First thought: like a very light, unsweet version of Cran-grape juice. There’s only a whisper of fruit, maybe some light strawberry, lemon, hibiscus. High acidity and alcohol plus tartness make this a stellar, STELLAR wine. Amazed and can’t wait for more. — 7 years ago

Light and very enjoyable to drink. Went great with pizza — 9 years ago
2012 vintage. Pale lemon. Fresh, tangy and citrus like on the nose. On the palate, this wine has more weight that I was expecting and some leesy, creamy notes - sur lie with battonage? Nice textural wine with medium plus acidity and ripe lemon and lime, hints of almond and some white peach. The length and concentration are really very good. For what it is, this is a top example of its type and difficult to criticise except for the limited complexity on the nose. I would think this could improve in bottle for 3 years. — 10 years ago
