Great discovery from another under the radar appellation: Les Riceys, a commune in the Côte des Bar, about 2 hours south of Reims, almost bordering Burgundy. Savory, not sparkling Rosé made with Pinot Noir from a single vineyard on chalky soils, farmed biodynamically. Carbonic maceration. Aged in barrels for 3 years. Pale ruby color with orange hues. Lively, complex nose with aromas of strawberries, smoky notes. Light-bodied, mineral, saline, great texture. Reminiscent of Poulsard — 9 months ago

2011. Complex nose. Deeply pitched ripe dark berry fruit, wood smoke and piercing rock dust notes. Sledgehammer powerful in the mouth. Almost overwhelming rich dry extract coats the mouth. Huge body. Finish is very long with pure dark berry notes and dark minerals competing to see who quits first. Great wine. But you have to pick your moments for this one. — 9 years ago

A full bodied and really rich old vine Grenache (with 20% mourvèdre). Ripe with a great concentration of flavours. Plums, cherry liqueur, garrigue, crushed rock, violets, melted liquorice, pepper corns and so much more. This has seen mostly concrete and really confirms to me my preference on how a great southern Rhône wine should be made. — 9 months ago
