Dark maroon in the glass with substantial legs. Notes of cedar and soft leather on the nose. On the palate, there is some heat, but personally, I find that in this case, it's quite pleasant. There's something on the initial finish that I can't put my finger on that is also enjoyable. My vocabulary is lacking here.
If this wine were from Napa, it would be $40. Great #QPR at $14 — 8 years ago
Opened by @momma_leslie several nights ago. I finally poured a glass for myself tonight. Deep maroon to purple. Full bodied with lots of tannin. Plums and dates dominate. Raisin finish is rich and deep. This one is a winner. — 8 years ago
Dark maroon color with nice aromas of dark fruits, vanilla, and smoke. Medium-to-full-bodied with very good taste of dark cherry, creamy vanilla, and spice on the palate. Nice & firm texture, smooth tannins, bright acidity, and reasonable length on the finish. — 8 years ago
Tabacco on front end with vanilla and oak and back end with tobacco and velvety tannis medium-full body! — 9 years ago
This was very good. Easter wine I would like to have again. — 9 years ago
Dark maroon color, pleasant on the nose, full of dark berries, touch of cinnamon and spice. Soft and velvety tannins. — 9 years ago
Decanted for an hour or two. '06. Slightly transparent maroon with slight bricking on the periphery. Orange tinge when pouring into the decanter. Bouquet of freshly baked pie and spice. Strawberry, rhubarb, and nutmeg and cinnamon. A lot of heat initially that's abates quickly. Medium bodied and still decently tannic. Long spicy finish. 92 — 10 years ago
Transparent maroon with slight bricking. Ripe dark fruit and spice on the nose. Nutmeg, leather, cigar box, with hints of mocha. Excellent tannin to acid balance. Fuller side of medium bodied, fig, cherry. Blind I'd have guessed further south but for an 08 drinking pretty well now. Get it. 92 — 10 years ago
Very smooth, very dry, deep maroon color. Scrumptious with pizza!!!! With Pam Hopkins in NYC at Sottocasa Piizzeria. — 7 years ago
Maroon and purple. Leather and cassis. Gravel, clay, black tea, ink and again cassis.
Soft yet structured. Showing considerable concentration, length and typicité, I think this is one of the best wines this appellation has to offer. Bought this wine many years ago and it's definately worth its 22€ pricetag.
Chapeau!

Well then. This cuvée has been a long time a' coming. And it's well worth the wait.
Dark maroon in the glass. A lovely bouquet of menthol, eucalyptus, and cherry on the nose. There was a lovely smoothness on the palate. Dark fruits. The oak was there and was pleasant. The CF was there and added a floral note in the palate that I can't adequately describe. The tannins were certainly there but not overbearing. The finish was. Very good.
Three cheers for @Ron R who solidly stood by this. I'm extremely glad to have tried this.
Definite contender for WOTY sub $30! — 8 years ago
From the winery owned by Mike Grgich. A blend of Plavac Mali from Dingac and Trstenik.
Appearance: Maroon with brown rim
Nose: Red fruit, green twig, and rich earthy notes.
Taste: Prune, raisin, savoury spice, and game. Persistent, elegant finish supported by mature and sweet tannins
Conclusion: Delicious, juicy wine with good structure. Will buy it over and over again. — 8 years ago
Maroon to burgundy with a deeper burgundy rim, spin it around and dampened earth and last night's smoldering fire hits but mellows to spice interestingly accenting camomile and a way far-off Play-Doh fantasy then back to the smoldering ember blueberries and strawberries unctuously coating, clinging front to back, then the tannins squeeze the acid and fruit just enough to slow the flow for a lazy decent into a skinny-dipping swim, swirl and, hell yes, another swig, which at a mere 12% I want to dance all night! Don't know about you, but I plan to snag a couple of cases of this seductive stuff with the sunrise. For now, "a glass of red and the sunset..." — 8 years ago
Inky, maroon, high sediment. Kalamata olives and coffee. — 9 years ago
Drank with Meg Clark at Flora Farms in Cabo — 9 years ago
Deep maroon. Opaque. Still a little heat but beneath is balanced. Spicy notes of espresso, coffee bean, nutmeg, ripe dark fruit. Fig. Big and slightly tannic. Medium finish. Sediment already starting to form. I'd give it a 2-3 yrs but very good now. 88 — 10 years ago
Decanted 2 hrs. Deep maroon. Ripe dark fruit dominated by black licorice, anise and alcohol. Full bodied and acidic with velvety tannins. A very chewy wine with major cellaring potential. I'll lay the other two bottles down for 5-10 yrs. once it integrates I'm sure it'll be 93+ — 10 years ago
Dark maroon with just a hint of brick on the periphery. Fig with an overpowering nose of black cherry, fig, menthol, tobacco, and licorice. Soft velvety tannins and full bodied. Red currant and coffee. Balanced yet not overly complex, with a strong finish. Remarkable for table wine. A north coast of note. 91. — 10 years ago
I carried this bottle back from Italy in 2013 & opened for Christmas 2016. Tannin forward at opening, but opened up very nicely after 30 min. & smoothed out. Rich velvety maroon color. Earthy rich bouquet. Balanced fruit & oak tannins, cherry, vanilla, tobacco & pepper notes. Worthy of the occasion . — 7 years ago
Excellent bold fruit taste. Enjoying it with meatballs, polenta and a green salad. — 7 years ago
Great cab from premier California winemaker Paul Maroon. — 8 years ago
Thick and rich! Dark maroon with a brown rim. Oak and leather push through the dark stone fruit aromas. All that aging has taken the edge off the tannins. Mellow for sure. Leathery and full on the palate. Used as a conversation wine at a gathering. Paired well with fruits from the tray, cheese log and Doritos. Honestly, for $18.99 cdn you can't go wrong with this. Lots of gold on the label and wire mesh give an elegance that makes the host think that it punches above it's price class. — 8 years ago
This excellent Sangiovese is unfiltered and has a maroon rather than ruby tint. It is slightly fuller of body than your typical Sangio and extremely polished, and worked well as a pairing with vegetable pasta dishes, with chicken sausage on the side. Plum and currant flavors prevail up front leading into a tart black licorice finish. — 8 years ago
Very drinkable, enjoyable full bodied wine. — 9 years ago
The color going into the glass is a dark maroon. There are berries on the nose and a medium bodied palette. There is some spice on the petite and on the finish. Goes very well the wonderful steak my son just barbecued. — 9 years ago
Millie recommends and so do I! Very smooth and velvety...beautiful deep maroon color. Tastes of plums and berries, a bit acidic and medium tanins. #dogsofdelectable — 9 years ago
Really nicely balanced fruit and acidity — 9 years ago
Dark maroon. Opaque. Caramel, anise, mocha, creamy vanilla, ripe dark fruit. Full bodied with big tannins. This will evolve into great wine. Give it a decade. Long long finish. 93 — 10 years ago
Beautiful maroon color with transparency around the periphery. The nose is most interesting; it has distinct Barossa Valley Shiraz characteristics, but it is also reminiscent of a big Napa cab without the chewiness. Big ripe red fruit, spice, vanilla and cedar. Not much alcohol on the nose. Great mouth feel but more medium bodied. The palate showing some chocolate, vanilla, and tobacco. Not nearly ad fruity as the nose but well balanced. Long even finish. Great value. Really stoked on this one. At $12 I should've gotten a case. 92 — 10 years ago

The last of the 09's, this wine is absolutely delicious. Takes easily 3 hours before it starts to really express, even the 09. Pours a dark maroon into the glass. The nose is black licorice, blackberry, and flint. The entry is gravelly blackberry, mint, acidity still present. The middle is where this one starts to pick up some fig jam. The finish is dark, deep, interlaced, with a lot of integration that has already occurred here. Tannin on the finish, which were softer and dusty. This wine itself is just a treat, although it may come across as being a little "thin" if you don't give it the appropriate time. Definitely not your pop and pour wine. This one is big, deep, dark, and balanced, and ready for action if you have the time. — 7 years ago
