Rocky Patel 15th Anniversary Maduro. Robusto size. Wrapper is milk chocolate in color, a few veins running through the leaves. Box-pressed for an outstanding tight pack. Smell is leather, black pepper and chocolate. Nice draw, lots of thick smoke produced. Flavor is elephant hide, dry hay, dark chocolate, and espresso beans. Full flavored. Big, foamy root beer-type head, that smells of graham crackers and mocha. Chai- Mocha with Maduro notes, light licorice, nutmeg, light cayenne, light mint notes interplay with the espresso-and pure cacao, toasty and warm. The pumpkin is almost secondary, but emerges, adumbrated in dark leather satchels filled with fire-blackened pumpkins possessed by Aztec priests with vanilla bean necklaces, tobacco leaf doba skirts, and smoky spirit animals made of graham cracker. 2nd to last P-beer! Caecus Reserva 2007 La denominación de origen más importante en España sigue siendo La Rioja y por eso en los estantes de tiendas especializadas y supermercados siguen teniendo amplia mayoría, aunque cada vez menos. Siempre vemos los mismos nombres y las mismas bodegas de las que ya algunos empezamos a cansarnos, pero también es muy cierto que de vez en cuando aparecen pequeños productores que nos sorprenden con un sabor conocido pero modernizado. Ese es el caso de nuestro vino de hoy, de las bodegas Pago de Larrea, situada en la famosísima localidad de El Ciego, quizás la más vinícola de la zona. Este proyecto viene abalado por la familia que en su día fue propietaria del conocido Viña Salceda y que ya hace unos años trabaja produciendo vinos elegantes y modernos con el nombre de Caecus. Caecus Reserva 2007, es un tinto elaborado con tempranillos procedentes de cepas de más de 20 años y criados en barricas de madera de roble francés y americano durante 20 meses. De edición más que limitada ya que solo se producen 6000 botellas, es un gran exponente de lo bueno que nos sigue presentando La Rioja. - NOMBRE: Caecus Reserva 2007 - BODEGA: Pago de Larrea - DENOMINACIÓN DE ORIGEN: Rioja - TIPO DE UVA: Tempranillo - GRADUACIÓN: 14 - PRECIO: 15-20 € - NOTA DE CATA: onito color rojo intenso de capa media y ribete ligeramente anaranjado. En nariz nos sorprende primero el toque de fruta roja madura acompañada de toques especiados y un ligeramente balsámicos. Después aparecen toques achocolatados y de madera seca muy bien integrados. En boca es franco en cuanto a fruta y chocolate. Se nota un tanino maduro y bien integrado y una acidéz marcada como en los buenos Riojas que todavía tienen tiempo para evolucionar en botella. Postgusto medio y frutal más que agradable. - MARIDAJE: todo tipo de carnes y guisos así como quesos curados. - VALORACIÓN DE DVICIO: 8/10 elegante y fresco en edición limitada. — 13 years ago

The first time I tried this one I thought it was cooked and it turns out I am probably correct. This second bottle was absolutely amazing. The first smell gave me elements of tobacco in tar. You could smell the smoke ear itching stickiness of like a fresh paved Road or old cigar stubs. After that there was a second layer of cherry. it was incredible. it wasn't like a sour cherry so much as it was a maraschino cherry. There was the third and final layer of milk chocolate that was a perfect balance of the first two. Imagine eating an amazing chocolate covered Cherry while smoking a Maduro cigar at a gas station and that's exactly what you have. Musical most comforting feeling to it. This is something you should want to drink by yourself curled up with a good book or with a good movie on. My only problem is that it comes off is almost stopped and off balance or amateurish version of the mastroberedino radici. The alcohol is a little bit too prominent on the back end and I would like to see it aged a bit more I think this one would be about 5 times better in about 5 years. Also I would like to have seen a slightly Fuller body. I purchase this wine for about 19.99 and I have to say I'd go with high as about $28 for this bottle. — 9 years ago
