Needing an aperitif to accompany a charcuterie plate, I popped the cork on the pale straw-colored NV M Lawrence Demi-Sec Sparkling Blend 'Detroit' from L Mawby. Nice red and green apple aromas on the active nose. A bit of residual sugar brightened the crisp fruit flavors. An eminently quaffable summer refresher. — 12 years ago

Although I'm a huge fan of L Mawby's Leelanau Peninsula "methode champenoise" sparklers, he also produces a cheaper, more fun line of sparkling wines under the M Lawrence moniker. The pale yellow NV M Lawrence Extra Dry Sparkling Wine 'Sandpiper' emits sweet/tart apple aromas with a hint of toast. Although sweeter than a brut, it has a crisp tartness that refreshes the palate quite nicely. — 13 years ago
