Salinity is 11/10 — 6 years ago
7 December 2018. The Four Horsemen, Brooklyn, NY. — 6 years ago
The "lesser" of the two wines was the winner in this drink-off. Both difficult years, but the 00' had way more finesse than the 09'.
What a wine! Classic KR and typical Saumagen power. White flowers, chrysanthemum, rich fruit, salty, salty, special KR earthiness, and did I mention salty. As usual, I should mention this isn't for everyone - Bernd's barrels have got some special "dirt" in them. But for me, these wines are full of character and often not exemplifies the term power without weight! — 7 years ago
You have to give credit where credit is due. Since Bernd left, KR has admittedly been in the shadow of it's past. But this 16' is proof that KR's back. Stronger than ever! Dominik and Franzi has nailed it. This is one of those "fuck me" wines. It shows Saumagen's hedonistic nature, although leashed by searing acidity and confounding weightlessness.
The minerality is overwhelming. You can smell it and taste nothing but it. Flowers, exotic fruits, and cream on the nose too. Lengthy delicate finish. If I had anything to complain, it would be that the weight almost entirely derives from phenolic grip atm. It needs time, lots of it to sing at its full potential.
NB: Had this twice this year. Next up - Auslese trocken R! — 7 years ago

Smells like cheese and taste like tropical citrus — 10 years ago
An unsuspectingly forward Riesling with a watery pale hay color and shy aromas of orchard fruits, bitter apple seed, and slate. The flavors take a sharp u-turn - fully expressive with off dry but not honeyed notes of red apple and roasted lemon. It finishes cleanly with slate and wet rocks. Really excellent. — 7 years ago

A fine example of what this fairly obscure, under-the-radar, consistently good producer can do. — 11 years ago
Excellent, unusual wine! Would drink again. Has enjoyable tart apple notes. Beautiful color — 5 years ago

Crisp, clean, minerally. — 6 years ago
I like the stems in this but don't know if others would. It's got Sass indeed. Kermit tasting. — 8 years ago
Bright, not sweet, not dry. Pear / light finish. — 8 years ago
Just past my favourite zone, acid has taken a backseat, this is like a really ripe pineapple and mango salad. Soft like cordial. 👌 — 9 years ago
Perfect residual sugar / acid balance. Very fresh on the nose with notes of mint, wet stones some petrol. Deep and complex. Amazing showing. — 11 years ago

If you haven’t had a Spätburgunder/Pinot Noir from Germany, particularly from the Pfalz region, it’s about time. There are few wines that over deliver for the money as consistently as these do. On the nose beautiful mushroom and forest floor. On the palate, acidity and minerality, tart cranberries, with some umami. So good. — 4 years ago
