Château Marquis d'Alesme

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

The 2016 Château Marquis d’Alesme hasn’t budged a bit since I last tasted it around four years ago. It remains a stoic, savoury Margaux with a herbaceous character and underlying inky, tangy fruit. It’s still quite shy, scarcely changing on the second night, and probably much too young still for enjoying.

Back goes the case with a big ‘do not touch’ stamp – probably for another four years.

The US is now their #1 export market. You would be surprised at what some producers spend on labels. It is more than you think. All those countries, languages and different requirements for what needs to be written on them.

I think this is in a dumb faze or just closed down.

The nose is muted and not all that revealing. Soft blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, strawberries with powdery raspberries. Clayish soils, some clove, dark earth, very light herbs, notes of baking soda, sandalwood and dark withering flowers.

The palate is a little flat..showing stubbornness. Ripe but dullish; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, strawberries & raspberries. Dry clayish soils, dry top soil, limestone minerals, dark spice, clove, dark, rich earth, very light herbs, notes of baking soda, sandalwood that falls into cedar, soft tobacco with dark withering flowers and violets, its acidity is very good, the finish while balanced, polished, somewhat elegant, lacks some complexity today and lasts a minute.

I would reserve a full assessment of this one tasting it again in 5+ years. It is in need of further evolution.

Château Tayac

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with mild complexity.

Showing red and black fruits with light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.

This 8 year old is drinking nicely now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

Nicely balanced with nice complexity. Smooth and entertaining.

I had this vintage 5 years ago and it is drinking better now.

Good by itself or with food.

A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. Aged in (40% new) French oak barrels for 12 months.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Château Lascombes

Margaux Merlot Blend 2018

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Beautiful nose of blackberries, black currants, plums, tobacco, cedar, leather, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, herbs, earth, Mediterranean spices and peppercorn.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, currants, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, peppercorn, tobacco leaf and black tea.

This Second Growth Margaux is delicious. Nicely balanced and elegant. Fruit forward and complex. Rich, but not extracted.

This 7 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based blend is starting to drink beautifully right now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 20 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years. Has good potential to become a 94+ point wine.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. Loved the complexity on the nose.

A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

Wow this is delicious! I paid $40 but would pay $100. Mellow nose but I get ripe plum up front and oak in the back. Very balanced throughout. More plum, slight cherry and touch of oak on palate. Low acidity. This is quintessential Bordeaux! — 2 months ago

Château Labégorce

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Vintage 2015 | deep dark colour, more red than brown rim, strict in smell: cedar, vanilla, flint, tertiary notes, while still fruity in taste, some tannins, so can still improve. A real classic: refined Margaux elegance. Paired with tenderloin steak Cantonese style with garlic and paksoi, one of my favorites to pair excellent wine with. — 4 months ago

Château Lascombes

Chevalier de Lascombes Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

2022 vintage. First time seeing/tasting the 2nd label of Château Lascombes. Flips the main label blend of approx 70% Cab/30% Merlot to 70% Merlot/30% Cab. Turnabout is fair play-and delicious. Just enough grip and grab tannins along with slip and slab fruit punch. $25.10 a bottle resto cost. Send a case and let’s see where it leads. O3.12.25. — 4 months ago
