I tried this right out of the bottle and was a little worried - super tight and one dimensional - but after two hours open it was singing and I was smiling. The nose has a more savory profile but the palate is full of bright red fruits with crushed gravel on the finish. Super smooth - the fruit and spice from the Grenache keeps the gaminess/savory flavors of the Syrah in check while the Mourvèdre adds richness. Helen Keplinger is a genius when it comes to these new world “old world blends” - I have yet to have one from her that hasn’t been fantastic. — 8 years ago

An old non-vintage bottling.
As for the age I would guess this to be somewhere late 60's to early 70's (as the bottle is embossed 4/5 quart which I believe was discontinued for the metric 750ml in 1979) and also has the "classic" plastic/rubber foil found on a lot of oldies from that time.

Being a bit of a history buff when it comes to CA's wine industry I'm very humbled when opening these pieces of history.
Amazingly this held up to 24+ hours of aeration without loosing any life...and actually got better!!

This is body medium PLUS if you know what I mean. Stumbled upon this gem tasting cabs in Sonoma last June. Was very fortuitous to find the tasting room just off the town square. The 2015, the other half of the night's comparison. Less subtle, more floral. Jasmine, rose petal, honey. All powerful, but all a bit separate and distinct. I think this could lie down for a good while. Will be pleased to try another bottle in a few years. — 8 years ago
