Le Vieux Pin

Domaine du Vieux Lazaret

Côtes du Ventoux Red Rhone Blend 2013

9.3

Light purple. Light body. Powerful, intense flavor. Old World style, dry and spicy not sweet and fruity. This is a splendid wine, from Vieux Lazaret (the grounds of the "old hospital") bottled by the Quito family who have been vineyard owners for three centuries in this area. — 7 years ago

Vieux Terron Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2010

March 6, 2016. Dinner w/ Jim and Carol. YUM! 90% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre. Perfectly aged. Smooth, mellow tannins. Lovely. Wish I had a case of this. Purchased 2013. — 8 years ago

Chapelle St. Theodoric

Le Grand Pin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2011

A delicious wine that should show even more in the next few years. With notes of kirsch and black currant, this soft, but complex wine is delicious. It has slight herbaceous undertones that round out the fruit forwardness. Probably one of the better Chat. Du Papes from this vintage. — 9 years ago

Vieux Mas des Papes

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2003

2003- Don't be afraid of the vintage :) 80 Grenache knit beautifully w/ 20 Mourvedre. This was the precursor to VT's "Telegramme" bottling. Dark fruit & pronounced black pepper w/ a secondary savory/umami note. — 9 years ago

I need to drink more Rhone stuff. Starter suggestions?

Guigal makes well priced wines which show off the various appellations well. St Cosme too. Any Kermit Lynch imports. The Perrin family. In the Northern Rhone, Crozes-Hermitage & St Joseph are good appellations to start with as you can find great wines which are well priced. In the South, Cotes du Rhone & the various villages, Vacqueyras, Lirac, Corbieres, Ventoux. Gigondas will show more structured wines in the South.

Eventually work your way to Cote Rotie, CDP & Hermitage & weep for your wallet. :)
