Celebratory wine. Congrats Baby — 11 years ago
Apple, grass, slight cherry nose. Tannins that actually don't overwhelm but enhance the wine. Sweet on top, berry in the middle. Very nice. The tannins are actually amazing. — 11 years ago

Probably can't find it outside of napa area, but well worth it. Very crisp with muted floral notes with almost a butterscotch taste at the finish — 12 years ago
A wine that combines nature, art, terroir and an amazing story. From the volcanic island of Sicily on the slopes of Mount Etna, Fattorie Romeo Castello had lava flows in a vineyard that they thought was lost after an eruption. Years later the vines pushed through the lava and the resulting fruit from this lava vineyard make this special wine. Thank you #MonicaLarner for bringing this wine to my attention through your pioneering critical writings.
Now for the wine notes:
The color is a slightly hazy garnet red color.
The nose is spectacular, revealing the complexity inherent in this wine. Notes of ash and volcanic rock give way to ripe bing cherry, a meaty roast beef streak, with subtle hints of roses, herbs and tar.
The palate is just as complex, showing power and elegance in the intensity of flavor, while plenty of acidity and firm, youthful tannin add length and freshness.

Delucate aroma of apples and pears. The slightly buttery oak hits about 3 seconds after it's on your tongue. Delicate in the finish that lingers with apples. — 10 years ago

Light body and very "Pinot Noir" like. Bright red cherry and strawberry flavors. Mild tannins and light oak. Hint of smoke. Refreshing. Chill it a bit below cellar temp. Great story about the winery. A Mt. Etna lava flow just went around them 30 years ago. — 9 years ago
