At 15 years old, perhaps slightly past peak maturity but still fruit dominated, with a little tannin. Nicely balanced though only a trace of structure; very pleasant. — 5 years ago

This is a great Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley. Fruit forward with black fruits and chocolate notes, earth, vegetables, bell pepper, spices and peppercorn.
Nose of sweet red candy that fades out with airtime.
Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.
Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up and shows some complexity and tannins.
After a few hours of airtime it is much earthier with lots of vegetable notes.
Would benefit from another few years in the bottle.
14.9% alcohol by volume.
91 points.

After hearing a few rumblings about this being an exceptional value Cabernet, I had to investigate. From vineyards around 2400’ elevation in Lake County’s Red Hills, and Aaron Pott oversees the winemaking. Pott’s accolades are as deep as his resume, including winemaker of the year from Food & Wine in 2012. He is considered a top consultant in Napa. The wine takes about an hour to come out of its shell. Medium-bodied, heavy on the Luden’s, but in a good way, with a rich cherry and eucalyptus focus. Not extracted at all, but tons of intensity. Secondary notes of pipe tobacco, clove, and vanilla add depth. Not for everyone, but I can understand why some will really get behind this. For fans of light to medium bodied Cabs, this is a must. — 8 years ago
