Presented to me double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine is a deep ruby color with a slightly purple hue; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. No signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of black and red fruit: Ranier cherries and blackberries along with some dried earth, soft wood notes, some faint baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins (that seem to build) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and comes off a touch reserved in the end. Initial conclusions: this could be a Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Grenache-based blend or Bordeaux-blend from either Spain, Italy, France, the United States or Australia but the fruit doesn’t impress so I’m leaning away from the New World. I don’t get enough candied fruit to put me in the Southern Rhone and I think the oak treatment seems a bit liberal for that. And if this Sangiovese, I would be pissed. So I’m calling Tempranillo, from Spain, Rioja, Reserva, 2018. Daaaaang. I was close. Drink now with patience and enjoy through 2036.

Mostly Tempranillo with a small amount of Graciano, aged in oak for 15 months, from the Rioja Alavesa, where Tempranillo thrives in a microclimate strongly influenced both by the elevation and the proximity of the Atlantic ocean. Deep Ruby with aromas of aromas of red fruits with cedar and spice notes. On the palate flavors of cherry and red plum with vanilla, oak and cacao notes. Fine tannins, long finish, ending with fruit, oak, pepper earthy character. Nice value! — 8 months ago
Bodegas Roda is modern by any standards. It was founded in 1987 and their first vintage was released in 1994 in a region that has been making wine since Roman times. And modern is a synonym for different, and in this case: this means brighter red fruit, softer tannins, medium acidity, and a long vanilla-ish finish. More elegant and refined than your typical Rioja! Cheers. — a year ago
At first we thought it was corked. After about an hour it started kicking off and probably with more time would even excel. Black and red cherry notes with earthy - leathery spices. Light, soft and balanced tannins. High rate for its age. — 7 years ago

Tempranillo tasting! Aromas of red cherry and barnyard funk. Notes of petrol, wet leaves, red cherry, and leather. Medium bodied with chalky tannins (on cheeks) with a medium finish. After opening up, the funk and petrol lessened greatly. — 2 months ago
Tasted great right after opening then continued to get even better. — 3 months ago
