Perfectly evolved & mature with ripe prunes and dusty, balsamic cherries and wilted flowers. Plus an earthy, leathery tone towards the end. On the palate very fresh with high acidity and fine grained tannins. This spent 12yrs in botte and was bottled just in Jan ‘18.

Botte 47. Phenomenally complex and constantly evolving. Initially savory with some animal fur, toasty honey (aged semillon) notes, slight star fruit. Then it evolved into dried flowers, mushroom, and dark fruit - reminded me of a young Barolo. Then black tea, green tea. Then strong dried spearmint, honeyed toasty complexity like the '81 Lopez de Heredia. Medium bodied with slightly elevated sparkling acidity. Not intense, but persistent on the palate. To borrow a phrase from Veronelli- It burrowed into my memory. I hope it made me forever better. — 9 years ago
Holy crap... was corked! Giovanni he's a true wine artisan, caring in ascetic worship his 1.8 ha of vineyard called "Paiagallo" from where he pulls out just a phenomenal Barolo: inviolable tradition, little sulfur, foot-pressed grapes, indigenous yeasts, aging in large old cask "botte grande". Such a curse that this time I couldn't enjoy this extremely elegant wine because of the miserable taint of trichloroanisole (TCA) in the cork. — 10 years ago
Hits your nose like a boxing glove with a complex cocktail of kirsch & ripe blueberries with cloves and gingerbread, nutmeg and all the exotic spices you can name. Some nice earthy, mushroomy notes too, after some time.
On the palate surprisingly fresh (cold vintage) with high herby acidity. The tannins are slowly mellowing (20m in botte, no barriques). Very juicy and highly drinkable for a sfursat. A great wine. — 7 years ago
Wow. Never had a dolcetto like this - biodynamic production with 20 days of maceration with spontaneous fermentation (without temperature control) followed by 3 years in large Slovenian botte AND THEN 4 years of bottle aging - this was a chewy, gamey wine with dark fruit. Not my favorite wine ever but such a surprise I really enjoyed it. — 7 years ago

Producing less than 800 cases a year from four hectares, the Cappellano family is know for their old-school "Vini Veri" philosophy on winemaking, in which only indigenous yeasts are relied upon, use of sulfur is strictly limited, vinification is traditional (extended aging in large, old botte) and the wine is not filtered prior to bottling.
What a nose! Decanted two hours from a magnum. Huge rose petals, violets, lavender, trufflee, tar, and raspberry jam, with a palate to match. Just enough texture on the tongue with a buttery earthiness that helps integrate its floral and bright cherry tones. Cedary, muscular tannins on the finish. A phenomenal Barolo. — 9 years ago

After the faulty botte 5 months ago, the wineshop owner replaced the bottle 👍
Nice nose with apricot, ripe peach, acacia blossom, nice fruity palate with the same fruit flavors, also some lemon, chalky mineral and spice, fine acidity, young but already drinking beautiful ! 91 DSP — 7 years ago
Complex aromatic nose full of dusty cherries, kirsch, plums, prune jam, Balsamico, leather, some earthy & mushroomy notes and gingerbread and tons of exotic spices. On the palate very smooth, a touch liquory, with the tannins perfectly integrated and a long spice finish. Brilliant acidity, too.
Stunning! A perfect example of a meditation wine.

Mmmmm... so good! Dry & crisp, just how I like my whites. — 9 years ago
frutta nera, balsamico, fresco ma levigato nei tannini dagli anni e dalla botte, l'uso del legno si fa sentire e altera un poco la naturalezza di questa uva. gli anni iniziano a farsi sentire e credo siamo al culmine della godibilià. — 10 years ago
