Light straw color. Coche Dury nose. Nose of lemon curd, wet stone, clove and freshly sliced not ripe nectarine. In the mouth a great balance of fruit and acidity. Shorter finish. Really good for the vintage. JF Coche makes this for Johan at D&S and it's a winner. — 9 years ago
A good Gruner always makes me hungry (must be the white pepper savouriness). This stands alone in and of itself without food. Full throttle style of GV coming at you from all angles on the palate with herbal notes, citrus and soft lees character. — 9 years ago
A Cape classic! Perfect blend. Balanced, fruit still strong. One of my favorite south African reds ever. Here is to Johan Malaan. — 10 years ago
Johan Reyneke as been perfecting his skills along the years, mastering top South African wines, Biodynamic farming , a very skilled man that knows how to listen to nature - Sourced from a small vineyard - bring a wine with great texture, well evolved, mineral notes with citrus fruit, and refreshing acidity 😉 — 11 years ago
So this was part of tasting this next to a cider with 50% of this same wine added to the apple cider. I like the cider better. This is coats the palate. I get lemon curd, grapefruit pith, almost a bitter green character, and a hint of tea. Very interesting. — 5 years ago
Third time trying this. Tightly coiled and reminiscent of young Meursault on popping the cork, with a certain reductive flintiness to its wonderfully pure Jonagold apple fruit. After being open for a couple days the wine is altogether more expressive, with creme brulee, almond, and bread dough aromas complementing its still vibrant core of orchard fruit and minerality. Strikingly rich and sumptuous for its relatively modest alcohol and lip-smacking acid structure. Given how positively it evolved and unfurled with a few days worth of oxygen, I'd lay this down for at least a couple years. Hats off. — 6 years ago

I was surprised at this wine. It had a nice sweet but not sweet taste . Good sipping wine😊 — 10 years ago
60 chard 30 gruner 5 and 5 of the kitchen sink! Nice nose. Ripe green apples, a little green melon. Mild mild fruit acuity on the palate. Dry long finish. $15 / 91pts — 11 years ago
I like Blaufränkisch and this is my first Oregon expression of it. Tastes like a snappier darker Oregon Pinot Noir. Neat wine. Johan is a biodynamic winery a few clicks closer to the coast from Eola-Amity Hills. Good value. — 5 years ago
Beautifully constructed and classically built up, with tar, roses and mineral accents on the intriguing nose. Still tight and youthful but accessible thanks to great fruit and integrated acidity. Drink through 2025 at least. @Johan Eriksson — 6 years ago
