Apéritif to an epic meal at Luxembourg. For such a sweet drink, it sure did okay in whetting our appetites.

The botrytis certainly shows. Honey, apple, grapefruit, lemon peel, musk, mineral. An almost baby pee like aroma lingers in the nose. Weighty, yet incredibly precise. Juicy fruit and spice on the palate. Racy, drawn-out acidity.

Note: Being a young Prum, I was looking out for the sponti/fermentative characters people talk about. Couldn't detect any (maybe that funk?) - likely because it has been opened for a while before I had a glass.

From RC write-up: Graacher wines typically offer greater finesse when young and are overtly more mineral noted than those of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr. They often show more citrus and fresh nectarine fruit, as well as a powdery, sorbet-like minerality that strongly differentiates them from the ripe peach fruit and the textural opulence that Wehlener Sonnenuhr wines develop with age. Graacher wines are also typically more accessible when young than those of their more famous neighbour. The slope here faces south-southwest: less westwards than the Badstube but slightly more than the Wehlener Sonnenuhr. The slope is also steeper than the
Badstube, but slightly less steep than the Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Finally the soils are also slightly deeper than the Wehlener Sonnenuhr and the gradient varies from 45% to an impressive 65% (so again, more steep than the Badstube but slightly less so than the Wehlener Sonnenuhr). Last weekend turned out to be a 2011 extravaganza and thankfully, a rather pleasant one. Not my favourite vintage in Europe, with the Mosel churning out many wines that could occupy higher pradikat levels than stated. Nevertheless, the best examples had a ripe delicacy, showing lightness and freshness within the opulence. That was just exactly what the Prum GK portrayed - rich and earthy notes wrapped in crackling acidity. Pure aromas of mango, peach, orange, fresh quince, and cream, with a light honey note and lovely floral qualities. The palate manages to remain very juicy, despite the ripeness and botrytis. Immense weight and finish, as expected of a GK. Complains? I felt the botrytized notes could have come off a little cleaner on the palate. There is slightly too much musky-savoury element, although it does not disrupt the freshness of the wine. MO also detected a slight bitterness in the finish and she felt the minerality could be more pronounced, both points I don't really agree with but hey... she's got a better palate than me. — 6 years ago

At the 12th year since the wine was born, this gold cap doesn’t taste like an old Riesling at all. Yet, it doesn’t have the fresh tropical fruit punch experienced from the 2007 version. All that being said, this wine distinguished itself as a delicate artwork. It is a pristine raisin nectar bomb. It is so balanced, so precise, so tender, yet so concentrated. Everything, sweetness, acidity, and minerality have been integrated beautiful together over the years. This wine reminds me of how good a sweet Riesling can be without sticky viscosity. Left to air for 3 hours, this was a very nice reisling. The acidity developed, bringing beautiful citrus notes to truly sweet summer fruits. Too sweet for me to enjoy often, it was a welcome change from heavier French wines. — 9 years ago
