Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

Red fruits dominate, with a lot of game, bacon component and a crush of black pepper. Very different from the Pegau one I've had before. This is very approachable, gentler than Gigondas. 2010 vintage — 9 years ago

Aged 15 Years 1776 Straight Bourbon Old Style Whiskey

Very smooth. Got this instead of another bourbon I liked since there were quite a few bottles of that one, compared to only one of these. So disappointed I grabbed the last bottle, because I'd have already gone back for another. — 9 years ago

Monprivato di Castiglione Falletto Barolo Nebbiolo 2008

Fruits opening up after 2 hours' decanting. Tea leave rose petal white pepper, sour cherry, herbal and herbaceous notes bring out a forest of spring. Restrained fruit notes, lots of potential. Drink the next bottle in a decade. — 10 years ago

Sine Qua Non

Li'l E Grenache 2003

A contribution from the raconteur @Shawn R and the label is a photo of him from his youthful confused stage. This was banging. I immediately recalled the SQN Incognito when I sat with this for a while. Very dark in the glass for a Grenache, subtle pepper, crimson cherry, kirsch. So sumptuous and voluptuous....and I loooove voluptuous. — 8 years ago

Côtes du Rhône Red Rhône Blend

Yuko bought this at Costco for about $16. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, purple color, clear rim to medium core. Nose is clean, medium intensity, developing, with aromas of blackberries, pepper, and vanilla. Palate is dry, medium acidity, tannins and alcohol; medium body & flavor intensity; flavors of blackberry, black cherry, vanilla and pepper; very well-balanced with a firm tannic texture and a medium finish. Quality is good; can drink now but has potential for aging until 2016. I like it! A very nice wine that punches a few pound above its weight. Great with beef filet with bacon (but then what isn't?), and dishes that incorporate umami flavors. — 13 years ago

I am not the biggest fan of most Malbec's. The Mendoza's just aren't all that interesting. There generally quite simple and lack beauty & elegance! However, Chuck Hendrick's Malbec's impress. He makes the Hope & Grace and did until recently make the James Cole. You will be hard press to find another as elegant, smooth and fruit so ripe. One could sip this all night. Ripe black cherries, raspberries, cherries, touch of blue fruit, liquid violets, melted milk chocolate, the dark minerality is round & sweet, there's a faint presence of used wood shavings, touch of lite pepper on the tip of your tongue and a round mix of rich ripe fruit blend on the finish. Acidity is spot on! This will only continue to improve over the next 4-5 years +. — 9 years ago
