Delicious Syrah suckled from tin cans in a surf beach in the Olympic peninsula. — 7 years ago
Rubard notes that I'm loving. Slight tartness, good floral aromas. — 7 years ago
It's Baseball & BBQ night. Go Giants! I Coravin'ed four wines to see which would pair better with pork ribs, pulled pork, seasoned baked beans & slaw. Started with the Pinot...that worked pretty well w/ the ribs but not necessarily the spicy beans. Then, the 07 Hope & Grace Malbec. That went ok. I think the H&G Malbec is perfect solo. Third...was the 09 Ridge Carignane. This was the more classic pairing...yum. However, the 05 DuMol Syrah was the real winner for all four of us. It's worked well with the beans spice and the BBQ sauce. Handled both worlds of strong spice in the beans and the sweet and light spice in the BBQ sauce. Fun experiment. — 8 years ago
One of the best double IPA. Only this IPA can be compared to Pliny the Elder. — 9 years ago
One of the best Black IPA's out there, if you do not try this, you are missing out on something so special, this beer set the bar for the style, outstanding!! Big west coast hops with massive amount of citrus and tropical notes, pine, and roasted hops added, Fantastic!!! Now Langunitas has NightTime, and Green Flash has Road Warrior, also outstanding beers, but this really set the bar, with be nice to see what comes next in this style — 10 years ago

Nice wine. Super dense. Black fruit. Really floral. Herbal. Earthy. Well balanced. Great acidity. Super round. Awesome. — 7 years ago
I'm not a whiskey drinker, but when I do this is always my choice. The strength of whiskey is nicely balanced with honey, which you can definitely taste here! Perfect neat, or with ice or as a hot whiskey for cold weather. — 7 years ago
Light color. Soft floral aroma. Floral and citrus. Smooth finish. Mild dryness. — 8 years ago
Beam me forward 10 yrs pls so I can enjoy this with some cellar time. Dark tarry fruit with lively acidity and fine strong tannins that drive a long dry finish. 6 hour decant and it was only just opening up. Next day was at its best. — 8 years ago
Renwood Winery 2013 Jack Rabbit Flat Zinfandel
Strong aromatics of black currant and anise are woven together with crushed raspberry, sweet cream, and hints of cedar. On the palate, the layered complexity of this wine is complimented by its excellent weight and balance, making it a signature Jack Rabbit Flat Zinfandel. Fresh and teeming with black cherry and hazelnut, this Zinfandel will evolve beautifully in the bottle for years to come.
100% Zinfandel.

My first Rhone. It had a bold flavor. I liked it. — 10 years ago
Color of dark amber. Nose is mellow with oak, sweet baked apple, sweet pear, spice from alcohol, nice flavors eater, smooth bourbon, and nothing close to indicate she is 90 proof. Taste is waves of sweetness with spicy bourbon, milk chocolate, canyon, oak, concentrated, powerful, zesty, yet smooth. Very long finish with similar notes plus flowering note, and enjoyable. — 6 years ago
Steve Distler, owner of Arnyca, is doing consulting for a few small labels out in Napa. As I've posted before, his Arnyca cab franc is my favorite out of Napa Valley. He was the former GM at O'Brien Estate and was able to add them to his portfolio, along with Cobden Wini (winemaker for Arnyca and winemaker at O'Brien), Frias Family and Jack Winery. Killer line-up of small production stuff. We hosted him for a wine dinner and all of it was stellar.
Jack Winery utilizes the talents of Aonair winemaker Grant Long Jr. Jack was started by Vernon Wells (former MLB player) and Chris Ianetta (current MLB player). This '14 cab is from Diamond mountain and drinking well at a young age. Not as monstrous as young Howell Mountain cabs. Red and black fruit dominant with a decent amount of espresso and pepper. Needs to rest for a few years but has very good potential to be extremely good. — 7 years ago
Jack and Jamie Davies revived the historic vineyards and cellars in 1965, with a mission to produce California's first world-class sparkling wines. Today, led by their son Hugh, continues with this commitment to quality. A 100% Chardonnay, straw yellow with aromas of stone and citrus fruits, with floral scents. A terrific sparkler shows crisp green apple, orange and grapefruit zest. A medium-bodied, wine with a great mousse, tiny bubbles and nice length on the finish ending with some crisp mineral notes. — 8 years ago
Excellent. Was a wedding gift so been in the cellar a while. Change considerably after we opened it. — 8 years ago
My go to flinty expression of Sancerre. Strikes a great balance between all you expect. — 8 years ago
This Jack Creek chard has really held up. Beautiful flavors of honeysuckle and mesquite with a touch of toasty oak. Glad Brent was able to hold on to this for 10 years! — 8 years ago
My favorite wine with jack Alexander — 8 years ago
1995 vintage Zinfandel. Firm upper cork gave way a bit on the inside lower half inch but removed it all with a little care. That cork was Tight for twenty years. Must have been bold when young. It was pale light red, almost heavily faded but smelled sweet. Not as sweet to the taste but a mellow and a hint of cranberry after airing out. Dry. — 9 years ago
