Tre Tine Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

Beautiful and amazingly accessible. Berry compote, violets shading to lilacs, and a delicate balsamic inflection. Already velvety with a long, palate staining finish. Stunningly god for "off vintage" Barolo. First date with Rinaldi counts a success. — 8 years ago

Napa Valley Merlot 2010

Lovely Merlot inflection. Dual pitches find harmony mid palate and lengthen wine into 10 second range. Excellent balance at a young age. — 9 years ago

Domaine Bachelet

Côte de Nuits-Villages Pinot Noir 2011

There is a smokey, herbaceous inflection reminiscent of the disastrous 2008, but the richness and purity of fruit underneath prevails. — 8 years ago

@Web Bond for me herbaceous (I would probably call it green) is the issue. In a vintage like 2011 it crosses the line from complement to distraction. I have the same problem with 2004 and to some degree 2006 . Very much appreciate the note.

@Web Bond I realize one should never generalize but the price to play is too high in Burgundy. Unless I have the opportunity to taste before buying ( or read notes from individuals whose palates I understand) it is difficult for me to buy those vintages. I believe it is safe to say even in the good or great vintages Burgundy is a challenge.

That's right, I'm drinking Pinot Noir on a Saturday night!! If there is a Pinot made just for me this might be it! Now I know why we bought this on our honeymoon! Great nose, just the right amount of fruit, and hints of spice but still very easy to drink. I get cherries & creme brûlée! May be an inflection point for my hatred of Pinot!:) — 9 years ago

Treinspoor Swartland Tinta Barocca 2012

Deep ruby colour with a pure, blue-fruited, violet perfume intertwined with crushed granite mineral notes and a slight dried-herb inflection. Ample tannin, though very fine. Plenty of the aforementioned fruit on the palate and some lovely, fresh acidity. — 10 years ago

Aux Combottes Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2010

Impressive length, even from the first. Closed nose suggesting only savory notes. Intense attack of juniper berry, incense and fraise du bois. Earthy mid palate of thyme and baking spice offers platform for bright inflection on the finish. Lingering limestone overshadows tannin. Oh and it tastes pretty good too. — 9 years ago
