Superb multilayered nose of minerals, indian spices, apricots and smokey earth, long and ample finish with a powerful middle, coats the teeth with rocks, despite all its sweetness, unbelieveable acidity for a PG. Awesome. 2010 vintage β€” 10 years ago

Sauternes-Barsac SΓ©millon Blend 2001

Straya Day vino.

Fresh. Ume, peach, apricot, preserved orange peel, white flowers, and vanilla on the nose. Indian spices as it opens up. Carries over to the palate. Honey. Interesting peppery notes too. Long finish.

Delicious concentrated Sauternes. 2001's a good year I hear. Still needs time - long life ahead. My only issue is the acid. I feel it needs a tad bit more to balance out the sweetness.

Lots to say about this surprisingly great wine. Beautifully satin smoky earth. Fruit flavors very muted now, showing the wine's deeper, meatier core. A great example of how good AV fruit and a good bit of bottle age can create the kind of deep, complex Pinot we've generally associated with Bourgogne, these Indian Creek bottles are a second label Navarro created to handle this difficult forest-fire vintage. Worked out much better than expected. I think I'll buy another case. β€” 9 years ago

How do you feel about the amount of brett in some Dunns? I bought a 91 howell that we found undrinkable. Dunn, being my favorite napa producer for years now, shocked me with this bottle because it had this seashell, dirty ocean water like smell. I just went to Dunn and tasted their 99 napa, 2002 napa and 2005. All of them had a touch of that. Nothing like the 91 howell but even this 99 had it. I found the ones we had there pleasant, but a uniqueness to the brett. My fellow colleagues said it smelled like "a bad mussel" or "mollusk broth". Curious on your take...
