Lovely and creamy — 9 years ago
We love the Chardonnay and had never tasted any of their other wines, but at a tasting at the vineyard this Oct. 2016 of the of the 2013 of this wine, it knocked all of our socks off. Even I who am not a Zin fan, found this one of the most scrumptious reds I have had in recent years. $36 at the vineyard, but I think you can find for less. — 9 years ago
A great wine should have a great story and "The Black Chicken" has both. Superb Zin, one of the top Bottlings of Zin in America. — 11 years ago
Absolutely love this Zin. Dark fruit followed by an earthy must. Smooth and balanced on the palate. Right up there with the 2011 Geyserville from Ridge, which was similarly excellent. I think both of these Re better than 2011 Ridge from Lytton Springs. — 11 years ago
Very bright and jammy out of the gate, and quite tart in a pleasant way. — 8 years ago
Love this wine and at $8-$12 for a price point, it's pretty awesome! — 8 years ago
Bright aromas of fresh, slightly unripe raspberry and black cherry, with a little white pepper and garrigue. By no means is this a typical Zin, as the grapes were picked a little earlier and it is not aged on oak. If you are looking for a big, extracted, tannic, high octane raisin bomb (which can also be enjoyable), this ain't it. OTOH, if you like a fruity, medium-bodied, food-friendly, minerally wine with medium+ acidity, you'll like this. Paired very well with Spaghetti Marinara. 13.5% abv. — 9 years ago
Beautiful dark garnet color with spicy aromas of pepper, fig, cinnamon, and mixture of red berry and black fruits on the nose. Full-bodied follows by spicy red cherry, vanilla, touch of caramel, and black pepper on the palate. Bright & lively acidity, delicate tannins, solid texture, and spicy finish. Very delicious, sexy, juicy, and spicy Zinfandel. — 9 years ago
I consider this a more full bodied wine. Typically a Cab drinker but this Merlot was quite good. Strong plum and cranberry flavors with a bit of a peppery finish. Alcohol content seems high with half glass consumed! Surprised that I am enjoying this one as much as I am. — 10 years ago

Definite favourite — 11 years ago
Dark ruby in color with a short brick rim.
Strong nose of blackberries, black currants, sweet plums, sweet cherries, vanilla, light wood, spices, dirt, vinaigrette, chocolates, coffee, alcohol, graphite and peppercorn.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with blueberries, cherries, sweet strawberries, earth, vanilla, light oak, coffee, pencil lead, river rocks, spices and peppercorn.
Nice length on the finish with tangy cranberries and very soft tannins.
This great 8 year old Bordeaux Blend from Chile is still drinking nicely. Showing nice complexity with a soft and smooth mouthfeel and a tangy ending that makes it interesting.
Was probably better a couple of years ago, but now it is more interesting. Good by itself or with food.
Needs an hour in the decanter to open up properly and remove some of the acidity.
A blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Carignan, 5% Syrah and 3% Carmenere. Aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels.
I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers.
14% alcohol by volume.
89 points.

100% Zin. Rich with plum, mocha and blackberry notes. Classic style of Zin with high alcohol but enough fruit and acidity to keep from going over the top — 8 years ago
Very good wine from CB. Nice balance to it, lots of flavor. Had it with a nice steak. Great pairing. — 9 years ago
Sometimes you don't want to analyze, and just enjoy. This was one of those moments. — 10 years ago
A wonderful Zin. Jammy fruit nose. Flavors of dark juicy fruit and warm spices with undertones of chocolate and old vine brambleliciousness! High on my list of favorite classic Zins. — 10 years ago
Hands down my favorite producer of Zin...of any wine in California for that matter... Entry level and only non single vineyard wine from Ridge. It kills me that this wine is half the price south of the border. Positively delicious, juicy California fruit handled with old-world sensibility. — 11 years ago
Good, not too bright or acidic, mild minerality
