Haden Fig

Juliette Chardonnay 2019

Definitely has an Oregon meets Burgundy thing going on. Tight and bright. A little flinty. Closed down. A bit more giving on day two but this needs time to show its potential. I don’t trust people who drink this style of chardonnay too young. — a month ago

Château Musar

Bekaa Valley Red Blend 2015

Decanted for around an hour, the 2015 Chateau Musar showed quite differently throughout the evening - at times effusive, at others more reserved - but at its best was a glamorous young wine with elegance and great tension.

The nose was exotic, as is often the case with Musar, with aromas of cassis, cedar, vanilla and soy. The palate is explosive and demands food at this embryonic age, totally saturated with ripe cherry, fig and orange zest.

This should age rather well, but that’s hardly a bold statement for Musar!

Jordan Vineyard & Winery

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Founded 1972, Tom & Sally Jordan, from CO, went to CA’s wine country & produced inaugural vintage in 1976. A Fav of mine with a steak, and the ‘17 hits the mark! Blend of mostly Cab Sauv with Merlot, Petit Verdot & Malbec. Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruit, floral & spice. On the palate flavors of cherry, blackberry and fig with oak, sweet spice, leather & cacao notes. Rich tannins, well balanced and integrated with fruit & oak. Very Nice! — 4 months ago

Château Musar

Hochar Père & Fils Bekaa Valley Red Blend 2017

I normally say “leave it to those Italians” but let me add in those Lebanese!! This 2017 blend is exquisite - starting with a luscious crimson garnet color followed by succulent aromas of cherries, dates, fig, and a hint of plum. Carefully aged this wine brings out flashes of spices of cinnamon and thyme. This wine emotes balanced tannins and a medium body! Salute! — 3 months ago

@Marc Ouellette, really nice, I used to turn on unsuspecting customers at VinoVolo to Gaston’s wines.

Haden Fig

Cancilla Vineyard Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2020

Very barn-ey, pasture, rhubarb and ocean salt nose. Sharp and tart cherry flavor. A bit spritzy. This wine has a lot going on. Raspberry now-and-later and starburst. Not getting the stoney-ness often found in Pinot noir, but that is not a bad thing. Probably should have let it aerate a bit more before tasting. — 2 months ago

Fig Tree Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Popped and poured; no formal notes. Grapefruit, asparagus, limes, honeysuckle, poblano pepper, minerals. Wonderful acid. Fabulous pairing with Peruvian-styled ceviche. — 2 months ago

Montepeloso

Eneo Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2016

Here we’re sipping a Super Tuscan: Montepeloso, Eneo, Costa Toscana IGT, 2016, 14.5% ABV.

It was made using a proprietary blend blissfully marrying several native Italian varieties, Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Marselan, and Alicante; the precise blend in a given year may vary based on the needs and wants of the vintage and the desired expression of the winemaker, Fabrizio Moltard.

This wine is deep ruby and offers developing notes of black cherry, plum, fig, anise, licorice, fennel, nutmeg, allspice, black olive, new leather, wet earth, and cured meat.

This wine is a reflection of the terroir of the Tuscan coast, with vibrancy in acidity alongside deep black fruit and earthy notes. It is dry, with a full body, high alcohol, medium(+) chewy tannins, and medium(+) intensity of flavors consistent with the nose. The finish lingers.
