La Réserve Michel Rolland Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2012

I'm stunned. This is like smelling a freshly opened or perfectly kept fine cigar. I've never smelled such strong tobacco in a wine before. Taste is same. Like sucking on a Cohiba. Perhaps too much, but extra points for surprise factor. It could also be alcohol and tobacco deprivation after VT, but this really was good. Gets a bit less one dimensional after ~25 minutes and I get leather too. Like good aged hooded dragon leather. — 10 years ago

Fratelli Alessandria

Monvigliero Barolo Nebbiolo 2001

Significant bricking. Aroma of rose petals. Red fruit and some tar. Acidity and tannins out of whack with fruit. Dry finish. OK, but not a monumental wine. Worked with grilled rib steak with a coffee/ancho chile run. @Susan Grover agrees. — 10 years ago

Le Vieux Donjon

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2004

@Susan Grover described this wine as structured elegance. Traditional CDP as it should be. Maybe a touch ♨ but it's a quible.

Domaine de Courcel

Les Rugiens Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2001

Initially funky nose which yielded to dark fruit, earth and mushroom. Dark fruit, integrated tannins and balanced acidity on the palate.Long finish. Just lovely. Why to buy, age and drink burgundy.
Only missing Beth Bryce and Susan Grover.
