A toast to Mr. Benson — 8 years ago
‘Inferno’ he only made in a few vintages. A stinky dark nose with tar and roses. Lovely depth and gnarly fruit but great acidity- blind there was an almost Brunel love-like intensity to the fruit. Both intense and pretty. Really classy and very vital. Great — 9 years ago

Great barley wine...starts with a bitter and ends with a smooth finish. Opens up great with roasted leg o lamb. — 10 years ago
Quite nice for a domestic, in a similar space as the Laphroig 10; has some caramel but without the peat and smoke. — 11 years ago
A bit too sweet! — 13 years ago
Sweet notes and a smooth finish — 8 years ago
The 1988 d'Yquem is almost identical to the bottle I tasted in 2016. This is almost Barsac-like in style on the nose with scents of barley sugar, complemented by marmalade and mandarin, fresh and vibrant with a palpable sense of energy. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous texture but it is not, and has never been, as unctuous as either the 1989 or 1990. However, what the 1988 does possess is a surfeit of vitality and tension. There are layers of blood orange, quince and marmalade towards the finish that as the aromatics suggest, comes across as quite Barsac in style. Superb. Tasted at Château Batailley. Sight: slight head. Dissipates quickly. Dark rose amber color. Smell: chocolate. Black cherry. Slight wood. Taste: smooth. Back pallet dark chocolate. Front Pallet extremely bright cherry. Not very bitter. Over all. Very very good. Aged 4 years in room temp. climate. — 10 years ago
Whoah ! Aged several years this is like a mellow tawny port. Raisins, prune, toffee, and tobacco. Put some of these away in your cellar and forget about them. — 8 years ago
Delicious, bold and smooth — 8 years ago
Not too sweet, but very slightly. — 8 years ago
Very peaty and spicy. — 10 years ago
Super nice Merlot, big nose, nice balance and body followers by a wonderful finish. Tasted against the Manage a Trois and Mutt Lynch Merlots (all of which showed well). This was Lori's top pick and a close second for me. We got it at $10 a bottle and it is bargain at this price. — 10 years ago
