STRIKE THREE YOU'RE OUTTA THERE!!! Go on, go on... Swung and missed hard on this nebbiolo that I thought was a sangiovese. Giovanna would be so disappointed. #3 on the blind tasting. A 2012 out of a magnum and decanted. Nice dark red colour and an enticing brambly plum bouquet that was echoed on the palate. Very pleasant with balanced acidity that worked well with the homemade gourmet pizza it accompanied. Not a ton to say... It had the underlying chocolate that I love. Nose was underwhelming. Very solid but the complexity of Ciacci or Cassanova wasn't there.

So this really never mellowed. Stayed pretty hot.. I think this could sit a while longer. Hopeful but when I drink a 2012 Ciacci Piccolomini, it's ready. So I don't know.

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

This wine was decanted 2 hours prior to consumption. At first taste it was very tight and closed. Better 2 hours in. Nose of tar, smoke, mahogany, and tobacco; inter-mixed with a bit of earth and red fruit. On the palate not very generous but complex. The second glass was better than the first. The next day after leaving the decanter open to the room temp air this became more integrated and the fruit level improved. Classic too young Brunello. Currently 88 pets, better in the future. Currently the Ciacci Piccolomini is better, but it is hard to tell which wine will be better in 5-10 years. — 9 years ago
