I find this cab to be a near perfect example of Oakville cabs below $200/btl. The nose takes you into the cask paving the way for a full mouth experience from front to back black and blueberries (like the mouths full I devoured while picking enough for my mom or sisters to make a pie; full mouth/full blast😎) that unctuates (my word) down one's throat smoothly grasping to stay high as it gradually slides "homeward through the haze..."😎 (thx David Crosby)! Buy this wine! Decanted x a mere 30 minutes and it steps up its presence x 4..😎. This is all going on at Salt, the amazing restaurant looking at the ocean at the Amelia Island Ritz; plus, it's Christmas!!! Matt, the bartender is a superstar! — 11 years ago

Nose of peppercorns savoury spices and minerals Medium weight with plummy minerality coming through on the palate. Hawkes Bay NZ Syrah has always been a favourite of mine starting with Te Mata's Bull Nose Syrah 10 years ago. This Salo is made by leading Aussie winemaker Steve Flamsteed of Giant Steps in the Yarra Valley Tasted again 36 weeks later. Lacked a little mid palate fruit when compared to the Mt Langhi Cliff Edge which was a similar cool climate peppery Shiraz. I preferred the Langhi. — 8 years ago

Almost 2 yrs ago I wrote: "Half way through a case and the romance deepens. Giant scorched earth and oiled leather nose. Epic battle of extracted dark-red fruit sweetness and a light juicy acidity. All in a smooth-as-silk package. Ageing so gracefully, 10+ years from peaking." After last night I'll add: probably peaked after 2 hr decant, no need to wait but this has the tannins and pure extracted fruit to take it at least 10 more years. — 8 years ago
