Shea Wine Cellars

Estate Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Seriously smoky-great Pinot. Freshly picked black cherry, woodsy tannins, Pommard Gestalt. Needs 2-3 years at least to soften up, will score higher. — 9 years ago

Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Surprisingly thin in mouthfeel and light in color - maybe it's understated "gestalt" is the key to this Bordeaux blend - help — 13 years ago

Second appraisal -- Another winner

Surprisingly thin - but delicate and voluptuous mouthfeel - very interesting juice

Reminds me of graves-style Bordeaux (earthy uadulterated simple stuff)

Doesn't try as hard as silver oak - but works for me

Château Gruaud Larose

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

From Magnum, a monumental and tannic beast that needs at least 5 more years in this format. Charcoal and pencil lead into black fruit whose tannins create this black tea gestalt that hung there for over a minute. Even after an hour a bit monolithic, but did great with lamb loin, filets. This will get even better. Thanks again @benchmark and Brian & co @farm at carneros inn! — 10 years ago
