Had with Mary and Dina at Bar Bégonia.very pleasant and well balanced — 8 years ago
Tasted blind, theme was either Napa Cult Wines or High End Australian, not told directly to keep us on our toes.
Deep to medium garnet red with brick edges. Dark attack on the nose with leather, bark, spices, a touch burnt and dates. As it aired out it gained some additional complexities with forest floor and more pepper. Solid acidity and well balanced with medium tannins (6/10). Quite a bit of red cherries on the palate with some earthy notes and a touch of cinnamon. A touch tart in the rear of the palate with some light tomato notes, mushrooms and gravel. Medium bodied with a long finish. Drink till 2019.
We thought this was most likely a Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet Sauvignon led blend with some Shiraz from Australia. Additionally it has to be between 15 and 20 years old (so between a 2002 and 1997). Not bad for the first wine. — 8 years ago
Leaps out of the glass with flowers, an almost kirsch-like red cherry, granite, a tinge of funk, and an intoxicating mix of herbs and spices. Like a field of wildflowers that's been dusted with cinnamon, star anise, and clove. Melds together over time into a sexy perfume that would be unmistakable if I came across it decades from now. Everything translates through to the palate in a juicy and lively celebration. Relative to Gamay, or Beaujolais in general, this has weight and length in spades. I wish I hadn't waited until this vintage to try this producer. If there's better Gamay I'm sure I won't find it because I'll be too busy drinking this. — 9 years ago
Still solid red, only slightly bricking towards the rim. Nose is elegant, cedar and blackcurrant with a touch of menthol. Palate is smooth, beautiful weight and still mostly primary fruit; blackcurrants and plums with a hint of spice. A lovely bottle of well aged Aussie Shiraz. Top stuff. — 9 years ago

Lots of knives and texting back and forth to grant long jr to open the damn bottle but man this wine is good — 12 years ago
With friends in town during Thanksgiving, I hit up some wineries that I’ve been curious about. Super cool experience at Aonair. Grant Long, Jr has created something special there, and with David Yorgensen at the helm with the wines, it feels all dialed in. Their Grenache was a surprise to me. From El Dorado and there’s some initial funk, but it blows off and what’s left is a balanced, mineral driven, but kirsch laden, and yet still, a bright style wine that’s quite reminiscent of something from Chateauneuf du Pape. — 7 years ago

Comte Lafon is considered one of the top producers of Burgundy with most of their bottles selling for triple digits and four digits for their top wines. In the late nineties they ventured out of Burgundy proper (the Cote d'Or) and also setup shop in the southern Burgundy region of the Maconnais by purchasing a domaine there. The focus of the domaine is Chardonnay and they have bottlings from many different villages and vineyards. The vines are farmed Biodynamically (a practice that goes far beyond organic) and most of their wines see a limited amount of oak in order to let the vines express themselves. These are some of the best values you will find in white Burgundy and Chardonnay in general. Ever bottle I've tasted from them so far has been laced with beautiful minerality. — 9 years ago

Really great classic in an underrated vintage; small crop but superior quality definitely as good general health but I think better concentration obviously depending the properties and the winemaking but generally a good vintage .... — 11 years ago

As Grant says these are ready to drink now. Very smooth for such a young cab. — 8 years ago
One of our favorite Grenache slash Grenache Blends out of California. Especially because of how different it is to the usual wine made with this varietal. This blend is 88% Grenache and 12% Syrah. Deep ruby red core. Some Syrah characteristics on the nose, caramel, maple smoked bacon and bark as well as some perfume and floral notes from the Grenache. High tannins (8/10) and moderate body covered with a ton of dark fruits. Attack is so smooth leveled with a punch in the finish. Tannins carry through with long and lingering finish. Absolutely delicious and will definitely continue to purchase these wines from Grant! Drink till 2030. — 9 years ago
