Less funk than a typical Musar after a 2 hour decant. The mouthfeel is gorgeous with extremely soft tannins and just enough acidity. Orange peel, cherry, gravel and baked apple. Odd and delicious. — 4 years ago

Beautiful Syrah which in 2011 was co-fermented with 5% Viognier from the Rocks District of Milton-Freewater in Oregon. Medium ruby red with some garnet hues. Layered nose with purple flowers, light baking spices, crushed rocks, raspberries and a bit savory. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and medium plus body. Love the funk and iron on the palate followed up by some red berries, smoked earth and white pepper. Long finish. Drink till 2025.

Raspberry jam nose, some musky funk. Mouth is the same, with some herbal kick and a slightly powdery, ground stone mouthfeel. — 8 years ago
Who am I to criticize a bottle of Mouton Rothschild? Amazing, no doubt. But didn't feel balanced. Great funk on the nose. High acidity and overall mild. — 8 years ago
An orange wine with some funk that does not taste or smell like varnish on the nose. Malvasia/Trebbiano. Tea, ginger, some tannins, dry wine. Love this producer. — 8 years ago
Popped and poured after the 78 Ridge Monte Bello. Still in a great zone and never seems to disappoint. Leather and saddle combined with nice fruit. Lengthy finish. Drink or hold. — 9 years ago
Cherry, earth, funk and oak on the nose. Cherries with nicely balanced oak. Some earthiness with mushrooms. Super balanced with a long finish. — 9 years ago
Love this. Delicious dark fruits with some funk to go with them. — 4 years ago
Last week was a combo of 4th Friday and Open That Bottle Night on back to back nights. Needless to say, the lineup between both days was full of heavy hitters, so I’m only posting standout bottles.
In the running for top red wine of OTBN. I’ve had Chateau Margaux three times before, and they’ve all been the ‘82. Not sure how I lucked in to that. Didn’t need long to blow off its funk. Almost ethereal in profile. Light in regards to expectations, and then as it lingers it snaps your head back with wide eyes. Delicate flowers like roses and violets accompanied by juniper, herbs de Provence, dried black cherries, pipe tobacco and soft raspberry fig. Amazingly acidic and tannic at 38yrs young. Saddle leather, dates, blackberries, currant, underbrush and high percentage raspberry infused dark cocoa. Magnificent. — 4 years ago
Had the tempranillo a few months ago, this time it’s the grenache. It’s still wickedly young but putting out loads of cherry and watermelon juiciness and then immediately takes a turn into that rocks district funk. Always impressive how that shines through even when these wines are fresh. — 5 years ago
Tiny spritz, blackberry and the funk. — 7 years ago
Barrel taste. The nose is insane, nice light funk with violets. Mouthfeel was velvety and the finish went on for a couple of mins. — 8 years ago
The funk is strong — 8 years ago
Not quite as sensational as our bottle in February due to storage differences. Cooked fruit of; rhubarb, raspberries, strawberries, dusty crush stones, leather, dark vanilla barrel toast, black earth and pebbles, black tea, hint of mushroom. Finishes soft and elegant with just a touch of funk. Hope you all enjoyed Christmas!!! — 8 years ago
Delightfully barnyardy. But then, I love a bit of funk in my reds. — 9 years ago
effervescent. mineraly, very light clean finish. deliciius. little bit of funk. — 9 years ago
Bright, juicy, cloudy California Mourvèdre (100%) from the Dirty & Rowdy Family. Described as a “snapshot of California Mourvèdre”, the 2018 Familiar comes from vineyards in 5 different appellations: Antle Vineyard in Monterey county, Evangelho Vineyard in Contra Costa (120+ years old vines), Rosewood Vineyard in Mendocino (90+ years old vines), Shake Ridge Ranch in Amador county and Skinner Stoney Creek and Skinner White Oak Flats in El Dorado County. Strawberries, right amount of funk. Delicious — 4 years ago
The estate of Sette Ponti lies in the heart of the Chianti zone, 15 miles NW of the city of Arezzo past village of San Giustino Valdarno. A blend of 90% Sangiovese & 10% Merlot, aged in French Allier barriques. Deep Ruby with red fruit aromas and blossom spice. On the palate blackberry and cherry flavors, earthy spice and grainy tannins. Good balance lingering finish ending with some oak, earthy and mineral tones. — 4 years ago
Haha... just wrong. One of the most well integrated wines I have ever had. Thrown off not getting the typical smoked meat/ olive tapenade characteristics of northern Rhône. Dark red fruits, slate, gamy, fresh pepper and the right amount of funk. Simply sublime — 5 years ago
Had at a Musar tasting at Terroir with Marc Hochar. Nice cab / cinsault / Grenache blend. Relatively smooth tannins with some funk. — 7 years ago
Dark cherry and earthy funk (manure). Balanced with a long, flinty finish. Lovely juice!! — 7 years ago
Excellent and great value. Light color. Spicy pleasant old wood funk on the nose. Particular fruit and typical Italian wine tart flavors. Complex, warm and easy to drink. 14% abv — 8 years ago
Fresh and pure. Bright berries and just a bit of funk, spritz up front. Sicilian Cru Bojo. — 8 years ago
Clean red fruit. Dried wood. Slight natural funk. Uplifting acidic frame. — 8 years ago
Embrace the funk! — 9 years ago

Sulphery and cheese rind funk fading into cherry Jolly Rancher. Memories of Malmo, Sweden. — 3 years ago
