Birthday dinner for a '77 and '90 tonight. Celebrated at Addison and indulged in the chef's choice menu. I'm not sure how many courses we had--12, 13, 14??--but it was the single most foundation shaking culinary experience I've ever experienced. If you are ever in Del Mar do yourself a favor and dive in mouth and feet first! The Martha's was full of sumptuous fruit, dusty tannins and fun funk. None of the tell tale eucalyptus or menthol but a very fun treat. — 7 years ago
Just fine. Actually totally great. No superficiality, no empty ambitious artificiality here. Great natural color and acidity. Great natural texture. Great potential for long-term development. Hint of Loire. Old mature vines, structure is not complicated, but the foundation is solid. Authentic aroma and rare combination of depth and transparency. Traditional, artisanal, agricultural, biological, honest wine. — 7 years ago
A very good Zinfandel. — 7 years ago
For more than 40 years, Robert Mondavi Winery has been the symbol of Napa Valley. Founded in 1966, it was the first major winery built in Napa Valley in the 3 decades following the repeal of Prohibition, and went on to establish the foundation for modern California winemaking. Dark Ruby with aromas of red/black fruits and earthy spice. On the palate cherry and raspberry flavors with herb spice. Soft tannins on a savory frame carry the wine to a lingering finish. — 8 years ago
I haven't had this wine since the amazing '95, '96, and '98 vintages. That memory was better than the present 2011. It had hints of those epic year's game, pepper, barn, and sautéed berries but in a lighter more approachable package. Great value for a motherland, foundation wine. — 8 years ago
Crisp, fruit forward. And portions of the proceeds go to their light horse foundation which is cool. — 9 years ago
Raspberry and blackberry nose with slight rose petal notes. Pomegranate red colour. Medium body with well balanced red and black berry fruit sweetness and acidity (medium plus). Mouthwatering juicy and tangy mouthfeel. On the palate is a ripe red raspberry and blackberry platter with features of ripe cherries and a medium minus feature of french oak foundation. Well structured acidity and fruit with medium minus presence of tannins. Personable of low sweetness strawberry purée from a weathered cedar plank goblet. This is an excellent Italian competitor of a Paso Robles Californian Zinfandel with shared DNA structure ( overseas family). Enjoy with pulled pork nachos or chipotle chicken with smoked cheddar pizza. — 9 years ago
Lactic mouthfeel, crème de cassis, sweet marmelade impressions, wonderful spice, very youthful. Great acidic foundation. — 10 years ago

Bright, juicy. An orchard of just-underripe peaches, nectarines. Hints of strawberry. Stone foundation. Pleasing acidity. Balanced, interesting, a crowd pleaser. — 6 years ago
The 2014 was full of flavor. Bursting with vanilla, caramel, tobacco, pencil led. To compliment the deep dark cherry foundation. — 6 years ago
Классика нового света с ярким тоном маракуи и других тропических фруктов. — 7 years ago
Some of the proceeds is donated to The Alzheimer's foundation because his mom had Alzheimer's. — 7 years ago
Dark fruits abound with black cherry predominating. A solid foundation of tannin's throughout support the delicious fruit but don't overpower it. The corks used are the best I have ever seen, and this vintage appears able to go for many more years. You won't be disappointed in this well made wine.

Aging to a briary blackberry burst of fruit over a firm earthy spice tobacco foundation balanced fine tannins and acidity loved it — 8 years ago
Fragrant blueberry nose and soft blackberry, dusty cocoa and hint of soy sauce. 15% ABV! Who knew? Damn fine Merlot at a good price. — 9 years ago
Punches way above its weight class. Refreshing acidity. Bright fruit. Earth foundation. A very happy chianti, one of the best at this price point. — 9 years ago
Deep rich flavour with a great mouth feel. Just under 7 yrs old but with the maturity of a 15-20 yr old crafted blind. Definite oak cast foundation with hints of cinnamon, dark chocolate, deep red fruits, and sweet tobacco flavours, all with a touch of the sea. As the label suggests, this deep and flavourful combo of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon (85/15 respectively) will beautifully compliment the deep flavour of any cream, broth, or tomato sauce based on the Maillard reaction (fond) of sautéed meats or vegetables. Highly recommend. — 9 years ago

LONGING FOR THE SOUTH
Yesterday I drank this very nice Macedonian semi-dry T'ga za Jug red wine.
The wine is made of the native grape variety Vranec. It has an intense red color, and the distinctive taste of raisins and raspberries, which make it a nice sweet treat (hence: semi-dry).
The wine is named after the poem ‘Taga za Yug’ of the Bulgarian poet Konstantin Miladinov (1830–1862), one of the Miladinov brothers, who originate from Ottoman Macedonia. Both brothers are thought to have laid the foundation of the Macedonian literary tradition.
‘Taga za Yug’ means ‘longing for the South’ (el anhelo por el Sur): "If I had an eagle's wings, I would rise and fly on them to our shores, to our own parts [...] Here are frost and snow and ashes, blizzards and harsh winds abound [...] There the sunrise warms the soul".
When it is cold outside, and fiercely raining, I can assure you that it makes you long for the sun that warms the soul. Drinking the T'ga za Jug wine in good company and nice surroundings makes for a wonderful or sometimes even better alternative.

Minerally Riesling aromas, slightly lactic. Thick California body but no artificial boost, internally not profound but likely hidden beneath the fat. Aromatic range is not wide but solid in the middle. Not long and resonant but immediately tactile. Masterly interpretation of 2014 vintage.
much improved on the third night, left open at room temperature, the surface aromas have evaporated and the mineral structure is evident, no sign of oxidation and strong foundation is very impressive. — 8 years ago
At home. 3/16. — 8 years ago
Wine of the night at #PBFW, the 2012 Brand is graced with power and potential. Enveloping, decadent aromas of steeped blackberry, blueberries, mocha, espresso, cedar and sandalwood waft from the glass. Firm, slightly grippy tannins and moderate acidity provides a solid foundation to the more luxurious, velvety aspects of this outstanding Napa Cab. I'd love to revisit this in another a decade or two. 485 Cases | Sample — 9 years ago
Medium to full-bodied beauty, smooth with a zesty finish! Two thumbs up. — 10 years ago
Felt very young but still had a firm tannic foundation. Good stuff. — 10 years ago
