Crisp, dry, easy drinking. Pear notes. — 8 years ago
The cut in price, (under five dollars) is not matched equally with a drop in taste/quality. A bargain at Trader Joe's for what is genetically the same thing as Zinfandel. This one is not quite as bold - and on the lighter side, ...but plenty of good from beginning to end. — 8 years ago
Hello fellow wine connoisseurs. Tonight I am trying a wonderful old vine Zinfandel from Cucamonga Valley where I had the privilege of visiting over the Christmas Holidays. If your looking for a wine you can drink that isn't as light as a pinot or as heavy as a cab, this zin is awesome!!!!
The cork was perfectly preserved. The color is dark purple but you can see your hand through the wine looking down on the glass. It is not as transparent as a Pinot Noir however. The legs are long and thick at about a 6 second drip. This is surprising. The initial bouquet is very light , reminds me of lavender and honey. EXCELLENT! The initial palate gives hints of grapes and dark berries with an amazing buttery texture. WOW. The finish is a bit sour like green apples and yet dissipates quickly leaving the flavor of buttered toast with blackberry jam. Don't get me wrong, it is very dry. It is in no way sweet. The after taste dissipates completely in five seconds leaving you thirsty for more. I can hardly wait to sip again. You should have at least a case of this wine on hand at all times. Oh yes, it is a 2012! — 9 years ago

The old vine bottling from Monsieur Dutraive hails from a parcel of sixty-five to seventyfive year-old vines and is raised entirely in Burgundy barrels, ranging from one to five years of age, so there is a little wood influence to this cuvée. The 2013 is outstanding, offering up a deep and nascently complex bouquet of cherries, raspberries, coffee, gamebird, lovely soil tones, spice elements redolent of clove and mace, a bit of mustard seed and a nice touch of cedary new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and youthfully structured, with a sappy core, fine soil signature and a bit of tannin to resolve on the long, youthful finish. This is emphatically not a classic style of Fleurie, but it is an extremely well-made wine whose inspiration seems to be as much Vosne-Romanée as it is Fleurie. The focus and balance here are impeccable and I see no reason this wine will not age superbly well, and for those who are looking for a gateway Fleurie to make the transition from the Côte d’Or to Cru Beaujolais, this is a perfect wine! 2017-2030+. - John Gilman — 11 years ago
Merlot and Cab Franc. Garnet to the edges. Medium viscosity. Strong nose of cherries and red licorice. Needed forty five minutes to loosen up. Cherries,, raspberry, faint mushroom, slight menthol drying the tongue. Acid medium plus. Could probably successfully age another 10-15 years based on tannin. — 12 years ago
Cherry, chocolate liqueur. Coating tannins and acid? Asian five spice. — 12 years ago

Clean crisp smooth vine. My new favorite vino — 9 years ago
This 06 still needed nearly two hours to open up. The fruit was nice but the earth and dark minerals needed time to calm down. The blue fruits were good throughout just over powered by dark earth and minerals until an hour forty-five in the decanter. — 9 years ago
This is a superb red wine. Very bold and full bodied. Bought a bottle by chance and went back and bought five more. — 10 years ago
Not usually a semi-dry kind of girl but I love this! — 10 years ago
Incredible wine. Top five favorite. Single estate at 500m in the shadow of the Montsant Mountain Range featuring 100% old vine Garnatxa handpicked and hand selected. If you can find it, you won't be disappointed. Hints of tobacco, balanced leather with powerful fruit and tasty spices. This is wine's version of "Reservoir Dogs". — 10 years ago

Four hours and forty five minutes of air using Audoze method followed by 45 minutes in the decanter. Likely overkill perhaps an hour less on Audoze method. Beautifully balanced. — 8 years ago
Outstanding Willamette Pinot. Cola, cherry, wet earth, and a surprising amount of tannin. — 8 years ago

The soulful expression of a single “suitcase clone”, The Traveler pays homage to the legendary journey of the original vine cutting from Burgundy’s most revered vineyard. Deep ruby red in hue, the nose on this wine opens gently with fresh floral notes of lavender and violet segueing to blackberry, boysenberry, cranberry and raspberry. Exceptionally focused, the structure is elegant with fine-grained tannins that present grip and finesse in concert. With time in the glass, the wine blooms and deepens, displaying notes of wild red berries, roasted nuts and vanilla bean while sustaining its bright acidity. The intriguing finish lingers long with minerality and ringing aromatics. This focused, complex wine invites further aging to fully reveal its remarkable eloquence and power.
We hand-picked and hand-sorted the fruit, reserving 22% for whole-cluster fermentation prior to de-stemming. The remaining berries were de-stemmed and hand-sorted again before transfer to tank. Five to seven days of cold maceration preceded more than two weeks of 100% native yeast fermentation. The fruit was then gently pressed, its free-run juice transferred to 63% new French oak barrels for 15 months of aging.
