Well integrated Cabernet Franc. Dark plum and blackberry fruit flavors. Big hints of green pepper with notes of earth and slate. A bit of a medicinal flavor on the finish. Low acid and can be served chilled. One of their last Long Island vintages. — 6 years ago
I love Cayuse syrahs but this is a Merlot based Bordeaux style with ~ 50% Merlot and 40% cab franc which is a little like saying I feared a medium bodied wine - was I wrong - so so wrong - killer juice - it was a full bodied baby - almost like drinking chocolate covered raspberries- what a remarkable thing to say for I had to dive through the funk - tons of Aromas of earth, peat, savory herbs and dark flowers lead to soft, sweet, smoky flavors. The texture and richness keep the interest high - almost too chewy - but after a while the wine soften and the firmness was like a waterbed of joy and sin mixed together - JD gives it 95 - will drink fantastic now with a mid decant time and last 2 decades but not sure what bottle rest will do and I think Cayuse makes to drink their wines early on - big smile of approval rating — 6 years ago
Wow, what a bouquet, showing crushed cherry and strawberry mixed with wild herbs, yellow florals and crushed stone. It continued to open more and more over time. On the palate I found youthfully lean textures with tart black cherry, bitter herbs, zesty acidity and savory mineral tones. The finish was long hinting at bitter herbs and tart cherries. — 7 years ago
When you hike in the Finger Lakes, you can easily think you're in Burgundy or Alsace. The topography is very close and the climate is just a little more continental. So the choice of grape varieties follows naturally. Pear, apple, and a little pineapple fruit come across in this wine. It has some stony and steely minerality, but less than typical for this region. There's a lot of vanilla and butter, with smoke and oak. These latter elements are too strong in my opinion. And the acidity is a little too weak. If that and the fruit were stronger this would be on par with Chablis. So it's a little off balance. But I enjoyed it very much with a salmon salad. — 9 years ago
Renwood Winery 2013 Jack Rabbit Flat Zinfandel
Strong aromatics of black currant and anise are woven together with crushed raspberry, sweet cream, and hints of cedar. On the palate, the layered complexity of this wine is complimented by its excellent weight and balance, making it a signature Jack Rabbit Flat Zinfandel. Fresh and teeming with black cherry and hazelnut, this Zinfandel will evolve beautifully in the bottle for years to come.
100% Zinfandel.

Where the name doesn’t apply this wine soars! Jazz, artisanal chocolate (Fijian ginger and kerikeri mandarin if you must know), and some friends wearing fantastic Pyjamas.... this wine fits right in. — 6 years ago
Drank over 6 weeks opened in my fridge and it stayed fresh throughout. Richly layered aromas and flavors of chocolates, pistachio, green grapes, and honeydew melon with floral undertones. Savory but offset by some residual sugar. Sufficiently robust for the main course. Really nice. — 7 years ago

Juicy. Plump and juicy. Delicious fruit nose and palate. Some spicy vanilla and pepper to round things out. Yummy. — 10 years ago
Bit better acidity, some nice phenolics too — 11 years ago
Kelley’s Pinot Gris spends almost 3 weeks on the skins with foot treading once each day. You can imagine the resulting flavor explosion. Think cranberries and crushed wild flowers and a refreshing mineral water finish. This is the type of rosé that can stand up to a full flavored dish! 😋💖 — 6 years ago

What a great vintage this turning out to be...the hot, dry(er) summer brought a nice balance of sugar and acid. This was wisely Merlot heavy (60%), lending to cherry notes. However, the Merlot is sturdy alto that allows the PV and CF to harmonize their tenor cords. This was from some delightful place between Rhone and the Right Bank :) Well done and a Superb Value at 22$ — 9 years ago
