Sinebrychoff porter. I rarely put beers on here but this is a special one. Started by a Russian--that's Синебрюхов to you--now a very small tentacle of the Carlsberg octopus. Brewed and bottled in Finland, this is _the_ Baltic porter, a fabulously pleasing accord of dark malts, coffee, and chocolate. All with a lovely prominent bitter note , like Susan Sontag's streak of grey. Properly bone-dry with an ABV of only 7.2%. This bottle is ten years old and only just starting to fade. — 8 years ago

First non-Austrian Grüner! Pretty impressed. This is a good case for the Willamette's suitability for this variety. As you'd expect a bit riper and weightier than a lot of Austrian examples, but definitely showing varietal typicity. Nose of ripe green apple, ripe honeydew melon, and grapefruit, wet stone minerality (that actually kinda reminds me of the granite beaches of the Finnish gulf coast and archipelago), celery, sugar snap peas, slight fennel seed note, and some leesy hard cheese rind action going on too. The palate echoes the nose pretty congruently, sitting on a taught frame of intense acidity. Medium (-) body with leesy, oily texture. I might be slightly biased since this wine kinda makes me nostalgic for Finland but it's pretty damn good. Would like to revisit in a few more years. — 8 years ago

Exquisite Brunello di Montalcino. Artisan organic winery. My first Brunello ever was 2004 vintage in Firenze on my birthday five years ago. Great notes of earth and ripe cherry. Tipica comes clearly on the nose.
Full body, medium plus acidity and dusty tannins.

Not my cup of tea, but this is something else when it comes to affordable mature wines or Aglianico one can buy from Alko in Finland. Medium body, medium+ acidity, finishing with dry note. — 9 years ago
