Here’s a beauteous Barbaresco from La Spinetta that we’re pairing with a homemade Bolognese – one of Mike’s (@deked1) favorites for his special day. 🥳 🎉 #happybirthday
This wine is comprised of 100% Nebbiolo, from Barbaresco DOCG, in the Piedmont region (NW) of Italy. 🇮🇹
Fun to learn that the artist behind the rhinoceros on the label -- originally created in 1515 by German artist, Albrecht Dürer – was both illustrated and carved into wood based only upon writings and descriptions of the animal, without the benefit of the artist ever seeing an image of one. 🦏 🦏
Bravo; ben fatto! 👏👏👏👏 Perhaps its central role on this label is meant to signify the creativity and ingenuity of the winemaker behind this beautiful bottle of wine. 🍷🍷🍷
This wine is beautiful, balanced, with strong structure – vibrant acidity, firm tannins, high alcohol, concentrated and complex aromas and flavors. It is medium garnet and offers developing aromas and flavors of sour cherry, strawberry rhubarb, anise, tomato leaf, dried oregano, violet, nutmeg, clove, cedar, and leather. The finish is long.
La Spinetta Vürsù Vigneto Starderi, Vintage 2013, ABV 14.5%. Big thank you to @hoythill2011 and @sunfishcellars for the recommendation. 🙏🙏

Ha tutto quello che deve avere un Merlot, grande morbidezza e concentrazione....davvero eccellente !!!! E grazie a chi l’ha fatto!!!! — 6 years ago
Много ягод, прованские травы, кислое мясо, немного бочки, сливки, среднетелое, чуть жестковатые танины, долгое и красивое вишневое послевкусие. Очень хорошо. — 8 years ago
I really liked this wine. Lots of fruits and a fantastic after taste. — 9 years ago
A lot going on with spice, leather and dark fruit. Drinking great. At A-Mano — 9 years ago
54% Carignane 26% Zin, 20% Mataro. Popped and poured. Gorgeously zingy Carignane dark cherry and blackberry Zin fruit combine but are going mano-a-mano with American oak coconutty scents. Perhaps that’ll integrate with air. On the palate there’s beautiful fruit/acid/tannin balance. Nicely concentrated. Should be really good with pasta con broccoli rabe.
UPDATE: This was a hair better on night 2. The oak had settled down a bit and the beautifully pure fruit was out front in the limelight. — 3 years ago
Dark fruity with complexities of tobacco. Tart pomegranate taste with sweet endings. — 6 years ago

Boutique winery out of Lujan de Cuyo. QPR is outstanding. Delivering way above it's price point. Would be fantastic paired with braised short ribs with a spicy basil sauce. — 6 years ago
Inexpensive and pleasant red. Ruby color and notes of sour cherries. Highly acid body with undeveloped tannins hat need a few more years in the bottle. A pleasant match for rich and fatty meats. — 8 years ago
Freshness with earthy minerality . Great accompaniment to pasta — 9 years ago
From the wine list at EMP bought by a new friend at the table next to us to go mano a mano against the 88 La Turque I shared. Slightly darker red and more pure in color. Amazing aroma that is more linear than the animalistic La La but in the same league. Hit its stride right out of the pop and pour gate. Lovely perfume with a more briary nose but speaks Cote Rotie from the get go. Perfectly integrated fruit and structure. Best Jamet I've had. Thanks to Danny for this treat. — 9 years ago
Lovely Friulano from Friuli! I've seen this grape compared to Sauv Blanc, but this was more elegant and less tangy. While there was still some hint of citrus (mostly lemon zest), this was overshadowed by pear, honey, grass and stone notes. Quite savory! 100% Friulano. 5/5/23. — 3 years ago
Lovable, smell plum and raspberry, taste white pepper. accompaigned with champignon risotto and dries tomatoes. — 6 years ago

2016 vintage. Distinctive and very floral. White peach, rose water, raspberry, guava, iris, lemon curd, strawberry bubblegum. Palate seems almost manic and all over the place, but in a less obnoxious way. 75 Primitivo 25 Aleatico. — 9 years ago
