Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

This is by far my favorite Pinot noir I have come across in the last few years. It has an incredibly smooth and well balanced flavor. — 9 years ago

Rhys Vineyards

Bearwallow Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

Without a doubt, the best Bearwallow made so far. Immediately enticing right from the pop of the cork, with sweet baking spice scents and a friendly texture with a plushness and pliancy that's almost doughy. No decanting needed for this to come together. If anything, it gets a bit more acute and juicy with air. But it remains intensely drinkable, first sip to last. — 9 years ago

Château Soudars

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

So tonight we are going to have roast beef so thought a drop of red wine might be appropriate. As we are up north, we grabbed something from the "secure off-site storage" cellar. That something is the first bottle out of the case of Château Soudars Cru Bourgeois 2000 from Haut-Medoc. I'm looking forward to trying this wine as we picked up the case from Quebec at the SAQ Depot a few years ago for a steal. Not often you can buy a case of Bordeaux that is already well aged for a reasonable price! Notes: the colour is a deep red still, almost with a purple tinge. The nose is soft so far but the wine is cold and freshly opened. The initial flavours are leather, chocolate and black currants. The tannins are nicely mellowed leaving a very balanced finish. I'm looking forward to seeing this develop over the next few hours. — 10 years ago

Had him and his wines in the restaurant with Ronnie Sanders this summer. What great balance, restraint, and intrigue for Aussie Shiraz. Just when I thought I'd never enjoy Shiraz again...

Artezin

Mendocino County Zinfandel

This is one of three dark wines that we are exploring today. Artezin Zinfandel from California. It is by far the best zin I have ever had. I do love it but I cant give it more than 9.0 due to the bouquet. Im not sure what it is, but there are notes of fresh prune juice with asparagus being steamed in the kitchen. After a 30 minute decant it is much better with soft aromas of rhubarb pie baking in the oven. On the beginning palate, there is amazing spice and pepper. It is followed by blackberry and raspberry. There is smoke and earth tones as well. This my favorite Zin so far!!! The other two wines in this tasting are Alta Luna pinot noir and Wines of Substance cabernet. — 8 years ago

Gatekeepers Blend Mendocino Ridge Pinot Noir 2012

Sweet tarts, the pink cherry ones, and just a hint of spree, the coating, that initial metallic sour shock. Head change keeps getting foggy...the cloud spirits are strong in here. I keep thinking I'm tasting chalk but then I keep feeling like I'm tasting ocean clouds. I'm having a fun time with this right now at work but this bottle calls for a day of rain or a windy pause in the hills. The confusion of this drink is tricky. It took twice around to have these evaluations and perhaps its ready now but then again maybe the fog becomes something pretty in the end...but when? — 10 years ago

Sweet tarts and spree means the producer probably acidified. Gotta love that citric acid crunch. Wanted to make it down yest but failed. Another time.

@Lily Davis well now you have my info in case you want to connect. This kitchen is always spinning and a very fun little space in the universe should you decide to stop in over here.

Acidified hmmm? I don't feel it's artificial in my tasting at least...the Mendo Ridge is a pretty chilly place...a sunny ripe vintage a rare occurrence. 💖🔀💰. 😉

Jean-Claude Bessin

La Forêt Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2011

Not your usual Chardonnay ! Clear, star bright, medium low intensity, straw color , medium plus viscosity. Green apple nose, grassy, citrus and mineral flavors, a little cream / butter, full bodied but crisp. Odd because it still retains the flavors of malo / lees and the body consistent with the grape yet lacking the concentration, coupled with the racy acidity one would expect from an area so far north. Pairs well with rich foods. Refreshing and crisp but able to stand up on its own. — 11 years ago

Fresh apple and pear fruit melon fruit fresh ANC clean finish lemon lime citrus leaves the tongue salivating for food notes of zesty fruit . Started by a group from Wisconsin chasing their dream to make wines. They made their first wines at Whitman cellars. Sconi block planted in 2007. where they will build their new winery. Two weeks ahead this year warm summer 2013 looks to be very good so far everything planted on their own roots continental climate here because of the gorge they don't get too cold 25 below zero would kill the roots. If they had to graft everything would it be possible to make great wines here. The largest wind farm in North America most of the power sold to California.
