Deep amber color showing her double cask feature. Nose of sweet apple cider, ester, a bit oak and cedar, smooth, and warm. Taste of nice peaty note, with spice coming next. Dried fruit like figs shows up deep on the rim and back of the tongue. Toffee and brown sugar like scarf wrap the tongue with softness. Aftertaste of dried fruit and baked apple. A 16 year old with smoothness and complexity of > 20 year old. — 7 years ago

2011 vintage. At Lima. Giovanni Rosso's first vintage of the classic cru, Vigna Rionda. Medium ruby - lovely shiny wine. On the nose, closed at first - due to its youth - but with air, spectacular. Minty herb, liquorice, sour black cherry, smoke, violets and tar. Very complex. On the palate, silky smooth - high tannin but ripe and luscious. Medium plus alcohol. Full concentration and high acidity. Deep flavours here. This is going to be a blockbuster of a wine with a long future. Spectacular Barolo. Drink 2023-2043 (although, to be fair, drinks really well now). — 8 years ago

Strong aroma, with blackberry center stage and cherry on a supporting role, and a light scent of vanilla on the second swirl. The aromas don't translate strongly to the taste. You can taste the red fruits, though it requires some concentration. The tannins are well balanced and there's a slight acidity on the finish, with a slightly bitter and acidic finish. — 9 years ago
