Reserve Leland Vineyard Pinot Noir 1987

Well what a treat to have an almost 30yr Oregon Pinot Noir. 1987 Knudsen Erath. This has grace and structure. Good fruit but with French elegance. — 8 years ago

Willamette Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1983

Kind of amazingly still hanging in there. Reminded me of aged Loire valley cab franc. Super acid driven even now but that aged earthy vegetably type flavor in a great way. Red pepper over green pepper. Super fun — 9 years ago

Willakia Chardonnay 2013

1st chard post Willakia acquisition for @stemichelle. Great #wine. Linear, straight forward, lemon-lime, green apple with a hint of vanilla. Think it's $30 retail, game changer for Oregon at $50 in a restaurant. — 9 years ago

So smooth and easy to drink. Wonderful concoction of spices and toasty creme brûlée. Lingers on the back of your tongue. Long legged and heavenly. My first Pinot Noir that has knocked my socks off! Thank you sweet Jessica!!! — 8 years ago

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 1980

Wow. Just wow. Bright and beautiful. Smells like strawberries drying in the sun. Amazing grip. Just amazing. This wine is blowing my mind. Dances on the pallet with rhubarb, cinnamon and clove, finishing with cola and the feeling of staring out across the Willamette...and it lasts and lasts. — 9 years ago

This is one of 300 bottles pulled out of the remnants of a winery fire in Chelan last year. 80 barrels or '12 and '13 lost in the span of 45 minutes. Four Lakes Winery has come back from that and did this gem. It was surprisingly tight on take off. We have it about a half hour and it opened up very nicely. Fruit forward with a slight limestone action on the tippy-toey end. I've had fire-surviving wine before, but I'll remember this one. PS: my first was a 2000 Erath Pinot Noir. — 9 years ago

Where can one buy this wine?

Michele: I don't think you can still get this in stores unless you go to a wine shop that has old inventory. My recommendation is to try Schneider's of Capitol Hill and Bell's Wine in Wash, DC and see if they can ship it. Another couple of stores include K&L in LA, Wine Library and Canal's Bottlestop in New Jersey and Sothesby in London England. Remember, this wine was store and pulled out of a winery that caught on fire in Washington State.

Yamhill County Pinot Noir

Tasted together, the 1983, I'm told was the better vintage. After 32 years, that sentiment still holds true. The aromatics have developed into a demure and perfumey elixir of dried rose petals, forest floor, spearmint, sassafras, and allspice. Its brickish in the glass, the color of worn leather, and yields intriguing, atypical notes of wild game, sultana, dried blood and iron ore. Knudsen Vineyard blocks are seated on iron-rich Jory soils, is it possible that this is the evolution of Pinot grown in this soil type? — 9 years ago
