Single vineyard, high elevation mountain fruit grown on volcanic soil. So much character for under $25... — 8 years ago
I received a selection of Catena wines following an interview with Dr. Laura Catena (to her credit, she's an amazing person and a part time ER doc). Her 2014 High Mountain Vines Cabernet displays glorious aromas of black currant, anise, mocha, exotic spice, and cedar. Medium weight, elevation has endowed this Argentine Cab with elegance and silkiness stitched against a backdrop of fine tannins and high acidity. It’s fresh and intense with a finish that flirts with saline-tipped minerality. — 8 years ago

Beautiful Rockpile vineyard fruit from Sonoma County — 10 years ago
This wine makes a compelling case as to why high elevation vineyards matter. This is truly a balanced Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine has many layers. — 10 years ago
Wines from Rockpile grapes seldom disappoint. — 11 years ago
2012 CIRQ Estate Treehouse Pinot Noir. Michael Browne’s (of Kosta Browne) personal project which as I understand is an homage to the Summers he spent at a ‘Circus Camp’ in his youth. Treehouse is an amazing hilltop (stunning elevation) property in west Sonoma County with red, iron-rich soil surrounded by (say what?) coastal cypress trees. I had the pleasure of visiting, hosted by Damon Wong, and it's an amazing Vineyard. Unlike anything else I've ever seen. I can understand Michael's fascination with it. The wine: On the nose, red fruits, cedarbox, with notes of rhubarb and fennel. On the palate, pomegranate, kirsch, black tea, spices, roasted herbs along with hints of black truffles and white pepper. Beautiful texture. Lengthy finish. Classic expression of Pinot Noir. If I had to distinguish it from Kosta Browne from a flavor-perspective, I would say higher acidity and a bit of tannin give it a quality more accustom to Grand Cru Burgundy which is not bad company. I'm a fan. Congrats to Michael as well as his partner in this project, my friend Kenny Rochford, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. — 8 years ago
Highest elevation and therefore acidity. Lovely dusty edged focused bright red fruit with a touch of pepper. — 8 years ago
An abundance of dark smooth fruit on the nose and palate. Must be the 2000 foot elevation of the vineyard. I'm sad that it's my last one of this vintage, but we have other years. Really good. Mile's would be impressed. — 9 years ago
Delicious Riesling for non-white drinkers. Refreshing and dry finish. — 9 years ago
Rosenthal rocking it again. Citrus skin. High elevation (highest in Europe?) prie blanc from vallée de aoste. So cool climate. So crisp. Out of magnum — 9 years ago
Aromas of cherry vanilla and maybe blueberry. Very nice smell. Spicy notes in mouth and nice smooth finish. Very rich fruit. Delicious. — 10 years ago
The first taste when it touches your tongue is hard to explain, but it's very refreshing. Feels like summer and freshly cut grass. — 10 years ago
Robust but drinkable! Loved it — 11 years ago
Silty tannins, high elevation, floral, geeky — 7 years ago
Just baked blueberry muffin with cinnamon on the nose. Beautiful flavors of tea leaf, blueberry, baking spice and a little mocha on the palate. An extremely complex wine from Pritchard Hill. The tannins are ultra-sleek with a fantastic finish. We get some earthiness throughout the entire tasting process which adds to its complexity. Would love to put a case of this back for a decade to see how it matures. Love it!

Old vines, high elevation, single vineyard. Mineral city. Saline suburbs. Sunny with a 100% chance of citrus essence. Yowsa. Hand carried back from Santorini by @Christine Wallin , thanks for sharing! — 9 years ago
A bit bitey and very complex. Crisp for a red. — 9 years ago
82% Grenache • 18% Mourvèdre • This wine was aged for 42 months in a combination of 1 year old hogsheads, and 600 and 800 liter demi-muid. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration. It attacks the palate with amazing fruit, complexity, structure and concentration. — 10 years ago
