Orientation: On the banks of the Dry Creek, North-South facing row direction
Soil: Sandy loam, gravely River bottom
Viticulture: Sustainable - Cordon trellis and dry farmed
Vinification: Fermented in stainless steel
Aging: Aged in neutral barrels for 3-4 months
Production: 408 cases - 750ml and 30 cases - 375ml
Notes: Pale straw color with green reflections. A lovely nose, with aromas of apple, Anjou pear, white jasmine tea and hints of peach and nutmeg. Maybe too fruit forward for some hardcore Old World wine drinkers, but I'm a sucker for a bold CDP. This one is drinking perfectly right now - just lush notes of blackberry and currants with nice woody herbs on the back end. I could down 5 bottles in a row. 94 pts. — 11 years ago

Plummy notes on nose and sweetish palate. From a 60 year old patch of Mataro (Mourvèdre) in Willunga, McLaren Vale. Medium to full bodied. A delicious fruit driven wine with little oak influence. Still years to go. 2009 vintage. — 9 years ago

Tried 2 different vintages in a row, last night after a long day of clean up from water heater bursting and flood. Sunday night 2012 Roar Chard reminded me of Kistler style of Chard, in fined unfiltered, full body great fruit wonderfully balanced.. Like Kistler sentiment at bottom. Now tonight with trash half way down the street the 2011 Roar Sierra Mar Vineyard is rich as Chards get. Great fruit with nice mouth feel no sentiment , refreshing tropical fruits with just a touch of oak.. Boy is this good!! I've written about this wine before. Ron's wines never cease to amaze me. Uncorked and poured, at 1st glance it seemed extremely closed and unforgiving BUT give it 30 minutes and it blows up!!!! Lush dark fruit, some leather and on the back palate a touch chocolate. This is drinking like a badass rockstar., Big, bold & unapologetic but has a touch of class that seduces you into taking another sip....at which point the roller coaster starts all over again. Ok Delectable, this is the second day in a row you don't recognize my wine! Who the f-k is Agostini Petri, can anyone enlighten me? Please. Anyhow in my glass I have a beautiful wine, 1997 Castello Vicchiomaggio La Prima Chianti Classico Riserva, bottled by John Matta. Initially I found myself in Cht9, with dry, sandy tannins but the aftertaste was more like a full-bodied Bordeaux. This is a mature wine, full of dark fruit and cherries, smoked meats, good grip of tannins and acidity that provides a back-bone. Just wish I had lots and lots of bottles in my cellar. Should keep on aging beautifully many more years to come. — 10 years ago

Santa Claud sings jazz to you in a small bar in Normandy, and you're cold but ruddy. Is this stand up or true mirth? It's the holiday you imagine in a bar near Skid Row in Downtown LA when you take a sip of this and are transported by a northern bite to your tongue. Irony or sincerity--it's so fresh but so sweet!
