Barossa Valley Shiraz

Golden straw appearance. Aromatic citrus on the nose. Zesty citrus with a slight melon finish on the palate. Delicious with pork fennel ravioli! — 7 years ago

Ridge Vineyards

Benito Dusi Ranch Paso Robles Zinfandel 2006

Aged beautifully for 15.8% and not even hot! Ridge only bottles this block of their Paso Robles when fully ripe and it can muster its full concentration and acidity like this super fun wine. I haven't had aged Chateauneuf de Pape but I imagine there's some similarly because this is anything but stewy and hot. A little funk blows off and reveals layers of deep fruit full bodied but balanced hedonism. — 8 years ago

Muster Graf Morillon 2011

Needed to warm up a bit but once open was wonderful. Slightly cloudy unfiltered appearance, toasty orchard fruit with a bit of lemon and tarragon. Learned later that Morillon = Chard but totally different from a white burg or Cali chard or anything else really — 7 years ago

Vino de la Tierra Valdejalón Grenache 2005

This wine show potential but sip by sip and over two hours in didn't muster up the flavors I had read about. If this is what a garnancha is all about, then I would place it closer to a Morgon than anything else I have tasted. — 8 years ago

The Bedrock Heritage Sonoma Valley Red Blend 2010

This is really as great a Californian wine as one can muster. It is rich without being decadent, redolent with sweet fruit without being heavy or glazed as so many wines are, complex without being overextracted, and sun-kissed without being alcoholic or pruney. With 20 varietals in this field blend, and in the flatlands below Monte Rosso and Moon Mountain, maybe calling this terroir-driven is a stretch. It is more history-driven, and a testament to the duo who have put the effort into preserving it: @Chris Cottrell and @Morgan Twain-Peterson — 8 years ago
