2011 vintage, Aux Combottes, in half bottle from the domaine. Is there a more unlucky AOC in Burgundy? Surrounded on 4 sides by Grand Crus, this is a Premier Cru. Perhaps the tendency for Aux Combottes to be historically owned by farmers from Morey is behind the politics of the hierarchy here?! Good aromatics, pretty nose, with depth. Red fruit profile. On the palate, the tannins are raging and the finish is dry which makes this a little unapproachable at this age. Open in 2020+. — 10 years ago

On the palate, fleshy and round, but there's an astringency and dryness from unintegrated tannins that make this unapproachable for me right now (just like the Aux Combottes). From the Lombardy region of northern Italy, this is made by the wollersheim winery winemaker phillipe's younger brother Jean-Francois Coquard. Fantastic and approachable table wine. It goes great with good, particularly fatty, red meat. The beets are very present in both smell and taste. Notes from the maker: full-bodies red with aromas reminiscent of eucalyptus, red beets, little berries and notes of almond on the finish. Made from their estate-grown Italian Bonarda grape. — 9 years ago
