Domaine Reynaud

Chateau de Fonsalette

Réservé Côtes du Rhône Syrah 1999

STUNNING! Wotn, one of the best syrahs that I have ever had! Instantly recognizable as a reynaud wine on the nose. Meat, garrigue, red plum, cherry, rosemary... all things great about southern rhone, but through the eyes of Syrah with more tannin and structure than a typical Grenache. This wine is at its apex! The only thing stopping it from a being a perfect wine in my eyes is that it is a bit slutty. — 7 years ago

A fine pleasure with great length and starting to be mature tannins, will be even better in a few more years - and as Emmanuel Reynaud told me "remember wine is first of all a pleasure to share with people we care about" 😊 — 10 years ago

Phenomenal. The vintage is starting to hit its drinking window, with a richness that has been tamed down by time. Nose is 100% Reynaud, aromatics are delicate but full scale, and finish never ends. This is intoxicatingly good. — 7 years ago

CV tasting Crozes Hermitage 10/6/16. Very savory and meaty nose with hints of mints and earthiness and beacon. Balanced and acidic and minerals on palate with firm structure. Long complex finish. Yum. Best nose of the 4. Opened Donna visit 11/3/16. Still savory and delicious after argon spritz for 3 days. — 9 years ago

Pour finir l horizontale 2012 , débouché un peu tard , tannique au début , le vin évolue avec un profil très sudiste , je m attendais a plus fin , mais bon derrière chambole et cdr de Reynaud , c est dur d être élégant — 9 years ago

Fragrant with classy red dominant fruit, smoky, rich garden soil and scorched earth with black olive, sweet spice and light black pepper. Less exciting in the mouth though there is decent balance and full, firm red fruited tannin and a chalky mineral finish. — 11 years ago

Cornas Syrah 2013

Blinded in one whiff as 2013 juge. His wines are as easy to spot as a reynaud wine. That Syrah campfire aroma just screams and the structure is very 2013, though more enjoyable now than most other 2013 northern Rhônes. I am sad that these are already essentially unobtainable and will just become more difficult to get — 7 years ago

CVed 8/17/17. Comp with Cabot and Guigal Hermitage and Cote Rotie. Nose is definitely new world with lots of floral notes and hints of vanilla and some peppery notes. Balanced with firm body on palate and long finish with some heat. Almost sweet vs the Rhone wines. Different style. Good wine. Ranked it higher than Cabot. Again CVed 2/10/18 comp of Pax Donelan Syrah. Still yummy with nose more similar to French Reynaud. Opened 5/7/18. Not a good idea to poke twice! Nose now has sherry oxidative notes mixed with fruits. Palate however held together better though a bit of oxidation creeps in on finish. Still drinking well but not that fruit prominent style as before. Second warning on this week on careful use of CV! — 8 years ago

Tant Pis! Grenache Blend 1995

Tant Pis! 1995
Red Wine from Arroyo Grande
made by Elaine & Manfred Krankl and Lorraine & John Alban
•This wine is one of several "Project Wines" made by Manfred before the winery was founded.
•This wine was sold only in 2-magnum sets. Only 72 sets were sold.
•The back label says that this wine was made in tribute to the great
Jacques Reynaud
1924–1997
– may your wonderfully
unique and loveably
wild spirit live on forever
•The photo on the label of Jacques Reynaud was taken by Manfred Krankl.
•Jacques Reynaud was the owner and manager of Château Rayas in Châteauneuf-du-Pape from 1978 until his death in 1997.
•According to Manfred Krankl this was a “single barrel cuvée comprised of approximately 60% Grenache from Alban and 40% Syrah from us....if memory serves right.”
Note that each bottle of the Tant Pis is numbered as a series of 148 bottles with the number in the lower left corner of the front label.
•Since it was a single barrel, the total number of magnums made should be less than 150.
