Surdyks Spring 2015 Sale - $12.99 (compare at $17.99)
Staff Selection (Bill McCleary): This Malbec from Terrazas is a new wine that surprises with more than expected taste at a lower than anticipated price. This wine compares to Cahhors, France, the traditional home base of old world Malbec. The French Malbecs have a dry undertone of cured tobacco leafiness with a firm tannin and dark tart damson plum flavor. In Argentina, Malbec has emerged with the intense sun and sandy soil to become an aromatic celebrity with a lush fat rich frutiness and soft texture, often leaving it quite ordinary. Terrazas has found, in this Reserva, a rightful balance of French deep character and Argentine berry brightness. Musky aromas of plum and ripe fig, wood smoke, dark chocolate and a signature array of briary, herbal grassy notes give Malbec a distinct character. A floral rose flower fragrance added to the bouquet. A dense, full-flavor of darker fruit seems comfortable with a tannic thickness that never gets excessive. This is a wine of young character that has great aging potential. Give it a few years in your cellar and you will be enchanted by its maturity. Very approachable now, and would be good paired with a grilled tenderloin topped with melted blue cheese. — 9 years ago
Great with Argentine wood-grilled

Two straight weeks finding fantastic wines. This 06 Malbec is a steal. It's $20.00/bottle for an Argentine wine of high caliber. A new favorite. — 10 years ago

Outstanding smooth Argentine red blend. Drunk with Mauricio Paula and their kids along with a perfectly grilled New York strip. — 7 years ago
I received a selection of Catena wines following an interview with Dr. Laura Catena (to her credit, she's an amazing person and a part time ER doc). Her 2014 High Mountain Vines Cabernet displays glorious aromas of black currant, anise, mocha, exotic spice, and cedar. Medium weight, elevation has endowed this Argentine Cab with elegance and silkiness stitched against a backdrop of fine tannins and high acidity. It’s fresh and intense with a finish that flirts with saline-tipped minerality. — 7 years ago
A wonderful treat on my Argentine travels. — 8 years ago
Very jnteresting Malbec. I would have never pegged it for Argentine malbec but rather right bank Merlot or possibly even northern rhone syrah. Nose is very unique with some old school cellar funk, bacon fat, raspberry, dried sage, and other herbs. Palate is decadent and smooth but not overwhelmingly heavy. Blackberry jam and a whif of powdered cocoa. Really soft texture as it opens up and calms down. Nice bottle with relaxed tannins, definitely doesn't need any more time. — 8 years ago
Both bright and dark at the same time. High mineral content with dark fruit (plum skin and purple berries), tannins, medium bodied with oak tannin. Vanilla, cola, oak, and plum on the finish. Fantastic quality, a reason to love Argentine Malbec. #worldmalbecday — 9 years ago

2005 vintage. Incredibly elegant, yet powerful. Big blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, cedar, grilled tarragon, black stones. Fruit quality is extremely fresh, which is pretty remarkable considering its age. Easily the best Argentine wine I've ever had. 70 Malbec, 10 Cabernet Sauvignon, 9 Syrah, 7 Merlot, 4 Petit Verdot...100% yum! — 8 years ago
With a lot of Argentine Malbec gaining residual sugar, thank God that Cahors is still on point. A great savory wine with the right amount of tannic structure balanced with a generous amount of dark fruit. — 8 years ago
One of the better Argentine Malbec for me in a while. Violets, iron, spice, blackberry and plum with excellent acidity and structure. A Graves like scorched earth character in the nose was great.

2012 from Argentine Andes. The bottle pretty much describes this one. Smells and tastes like strawberry jam, but didn't get the spice or vanilla. Not really smokey like other wines from this region . I really enjoyed this wine and would get it again. Plus it's named after a goat - win in my book — 9 years ago
Feelin hot-hot-hot!
Boyfriend preferred the argentine selection (still some work to do on that front), so more of this charmer for me! — 9 years ago

Sipping Fine Wine
CARO, alliance between 2 wine cultures (French and Argentine), 2 noble grape varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec), and 2 wine families (Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and Nicolas Catena). Blend of 75% Malbec & 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. Complex aromas of dark berry fruits, smoke and earthy spice. On palate blackberry, raspberry and sweet cherry, cedar, nuts and burnt cacao. Developed tannins, well balanced on lingering finish ending with espresso and mineral tones. Great but keep in Cellar for few years. — 7 years ago
