With a little air and unwinding, this blend really worked - and that is in large part due to the balanced profile of 2014. Jim dolphin really leveraged the acidity from cool and dry Aug/Sept evenings. Wish I had more ;) Profile is southern France - a touch of Rhône. — 8 years ago
This 3rd label was the bomb...powerful yet articulate. Rich without being syrupy. There are few VA offering that hit it out of the park like this! Get the brown bag - fool the expert...it’s not a Big Right banker, bro ;) it’s Delaplane, baby!! — 8 years ago
Soooo delish...the body and viscosity combined with that lemony sweetness...great to sip and splendid with my fish dinner. Always wish I had more Delaplane! — 9 years ago
Inside Virginia, I will be very strict and stern with my ratings for varietals… The tale of the tape —>> to the scorecard our key indicators. this fella may be a little on the downward slope even after 5 1/2 years. I will remind myself that this was a cool vintage and the sugars We’re going to be in a tug-of-war with the beneficial acids. Purposeful for the meal we connected, this was not, however a purple bomb… Rather an accurate rifle shot at 100m. To his credit: the nose was nearly perfect in varietal representation. The pallet lost an edge as the mid palate dark chocolate body turn just a touch savory — 6 years ago
Poetic as it is practical....mouthfeel is the key to such precision. At once it is silky, voluptuous, deep and clean!! 43% Chard, 30 Vidal, 20 Viognier, 7 p man...from the best year for whites in a decade! Buying more at $22 post club % — 7 years ago

This build is 88% estate and 12% springlot...while it lacks the irresistible fresh fruit of the 16 V.D. Springlot, it was remarkably BALANCED! No NZ notes, rather Californian in essence. Too much happiness to be Loire ;)
nevertheless, I will get a couple more bottles at 22$ after discount. — 7 years ago
Very solid effort - opened after 3.5 from bottling. — 8 years ago
100% fabulous! From the high elevation of Springlot Vineyard, this floral/citrus medley makes me scream BALANCE. A real contender to be best SauvBlanc in VA...take notice Glen Manor and Linden! — 8 years ago
Lovely red! Blackberries on the nose, deeper leather and old wood paneling on the palette. Full in the mouth, lingers well. — 9 years ago
Great vintage that offered a blender’s bounty: ripe PM for acid, Florally/lemon Vidal, body and width from Chard, wine altitude from the Viognier. Stunning example again of NoVa elegance in motion! — 6 years ago
This Virginian petit Verdot with Melissa and John in Winchester Virginia. Solid petit Verdot, just an underlying touch of oak to round out this great grape. The winery In Delaplane Va 20144, ferments it’s grapes on natural yeast and does not add any additional yeast to the fermentation process. Great wine, beautiful drinking wine with our salads sourdough bread and sheep’s milk Gouda from Spain. Yum!!!! Good times. — 7 years ago
Fantastic and well balanced. Nose of cherries and blackberries with some baking spices. Almost a meaty taste on the palate to pair with those fruit and spice flavors too. Medium to full bodied. — 7 years ago
12 was a classic year - not too hot, not very wet. A good year for acid! So, the Franc leads with 41% followed closely by CS at 35%. This creates a very unique profile that is often not employed by Virginia wine makers – a dance of two cabs. We took this bottle to a restaurant for steak (aged New York strip) with a nice char. Indeed, spice edge from the franc and the tannin from the Sauv made for a powerful cleansing combo!! While food functional, I only give this a 9.1 because it lacked elegance in the mid-palate flavor profile. Of course I should have expected that from a classic vintage where the sugars weren’t elevated – creating an extra rich core. One bottle remains. — 7 years ago
I like to let Jim Dolphin’s rosés rest a bit - They settle just enough to let the lush body soothe the generous orange & strawberry energy. Elegant and Super friendly with food. I paired Chinese one night and rich Vermont button blend cheese to a T! I will probably pick up another bottle to have on hand :) — 8 years ago
This is as classically Virginia as it gets: a Cab Franc-heavy Bordeaux blend that has a combination of moderate-and-definitely-not-California ripeness, a somewhat austere palate and certain lightness, but a Bordelaise nose. Made with a moderate Oak treatment and care taken not to overextract, it will never reach the level of concentration and age ability of higher end Bdx, still it has wonderful aromatics (strawberry, plum, cassis, earth, leather, stone) with ample acidity and a nice, if not long, finish.
These are never cheap, but it ain't easy to grow grapes in Virginia either. Delaplane is a surprisingly good winery, a few miles from the beautifully classic Linden, without the pretentious nature of RdV and more consistent than Glen Manor. Their dry Vidal Blanc was great and right up a wine geek's alley... — 9 years ago
