Great siciliano vino Carlo Hauser winery. The winery that made the wine that got me hooked 25 years ago. This wine is all about style, silky tannins, black berries, black licorice, volcanic minerals...and this wine was purchased in Florence. We drank a couple of bottles with Nicholas Ruth and Cristina Anel Ruth. — 9 years ago
Podere San Donatino (Castellina in Chianti) was bought in 1971 by Léo Ferré the great French poet and singer, now there's his wife Maria Cristina Diaz with their children to manage the winery. Spontaneous fermentations, wild yeasts, prolonged maceration - about three weeks - though the wines stay “sur lie” for several months. This Chianti Classico Poggio ai Mori is aged only in stainless steel while the Riserva does age in older wood. It's a 100% of a nitty-gritty sangiovese, edibles almost, nourishing even to the nose; mellow and sincere just a perfect pairing with some peasant but refined bread and salami (pane e salame), quietly singing "Les Anarchistes" facing the Tuscan sunset among you, the always empty glass and the Chaos out of the universe. — 9 years ago

I've never had too high an opinion of wines that come in a twist-off bottle (and I still don't) but this one is a nice exception. Fresh and light, it's quickly become one of my favorites on the table. — 12 years ago

Dry, delicious and a new fave. — 8 years ago
Hint of plum and spice, high viscosity and sharp tannins, smooth for a blend. Makes me think of Italy... — 9 years ago
Beautiful Oloroso from Gonzalez Byass. Probably drier than most Abocado wines in this style but superbly concentrated & in beautiful balance at the 17.5% alcohol. Amazing with our very varied cheese board! — 9 years ago
Surprisingly smooth structure starts off, blending the grape varietals well to a smooth elegant finish. With spicy southern Italian fare this wine holds up strong. 2011 vintage. — 10 years ago
Orange peel, papaya. A great wine from an understated Veneto winery. — 11 years ago
Nice tannins and a mineral structure. Went well with sausage, polenta and marinara. This wine would age well for a few more years. 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 5% Cabernet. — 12 years ago
