We were given this Chinon by our friend Igor and I thought it would be fun to try it tonight. This bottle is still quite young being a 2011 vintage but is already developing nicely. The color is a deep dark red, almost opaque. The nose has wonderful dark fruits and some vegetal notes such as green peppers. There is acidity to balance the high alcohol content so it doesn't come across as too powerful. The plums and dark berries combine with the earthy flavors quite well. The finish is medium. — 10 years ago
For a wine as old as me (1989), this was impressive and still alive. Classic chinon notes of dark, woody flavors. Mushroom and stewed green pepper. The fruit was bramble berries that have begun to take on a unami, savory component. I wish I was around to see it in it's youth just to compare, but shout out to K&L for selling wine this good and this old. — 10 years ago
The most extracted and hottest chinon ive had. 15%abv, and its well integrated after it opens up a bit. The 05s are supposedly very ageworthy, the acid, tannins and extraction make me a believer in that. Glad a got a few. The nose is deep rich jammy black cherry and currants. Overwhelming dark chocolate and green bell pepper. The end of the nose is all tobacco and coffee. The palate is acidic and grippy. Bruised/overripe black plum and some tart black raspberries on the palate with a chocolate and herbaceous mid palate with a maple like finish. Very classic seeming and at a bargain. Thanks delectable! — 10 years ago
